I had a lot of fun watching you build the bed and storage compartments. I live full-time in my 25 yr old, none built, chevy express. You're showing me how I too can build out my rig. Thank you.

But I love your Boston accent!! Also that knife shirt is a total vibe...DON'T MESS WITH LINDSAY! It really inspires me that you're tackling so much of this build all on your own and it's such a joy to watch. (I know you had help with some of the electrical stuff, but so much of the woodwork has been by yourself - it appears at least.) I always had my partner to bounce ideas off of and problem solve with, and I don't think our van would have gotten finished on my own. You're such a boss lady!!

Good job! A pair of plywood strips, glued to the bottom of the holes in the facades of the boxes, will make the extension more convenient. If you paint them white, it’s a good accent

I also use a Chevy Express van for towing a travel trailer and to camp with. I made a removable bed frame that snaps together using metal brackets to support a queen size air mattress. I use plastic storage containers under the bed to store things.

Well, how super rad is that? Just goes to show you don't need some super fancy bed plans -- some 2x4s and plywood and a few tools and you're good to go! Can't wait to see the finished build and your future adventures! PS: how come everyone can cut straight lines with a saw except me?
@LindsayDaly2 жыл бұрын
I’m honestly SO pleased with it, can’t believe it looks the way it does just with plywood and paint but…yeah! And also I promise you those lines are NOT straight ahahah, though I definitely did better than usual this time lol

@@LindsayDaly Are those rail sliders hard to install? I like how that worked out. I know I don't have it in me to convert between a bench and a bed every night.
@LindsayDaly2 жыл бұрын
Ugh exactly!! I was like, it’s cool and all to have the extra space but…that ain’t worth it. The rails were very easy to install but you do have to be pretty precise with your measurements…I was a little sloppy with one of the drawers so it’s a bit misaligned with the rails, making it a bit tough to open. It’s still totally functional, but if I had been off by any more I might have been in trouble!

I don't know about all those 2x4s. I built a bed platform with a single 6', 4x4 cut evenly into 6 12" legs and a precut 5 8th inch plywood. Screws, wood glue, and L brackets done. Lighter and removable.

The bed turned out absolutely wonderful!!! I love the stain on the drawer fronts! Do you mind if I ask what else is planned for the van? It looks pretty fancy and finished to me but I know you've got a few more finishing touches in the works. I 100% understand if youd rather save it for patreons tho!
@LindsayDaly2 жыл бұрын
No no you will of course get to see the whole build and everything! I have like…half a closet added in there which you’ll see very soon in the next video, but I ran out of time before I could do everything I wanted. Now that I’m back from my trip, I’ll be continuing the build by adding a little “kitchen” area (mainly just some cabinets and countertops, no actual plumbing involved) and decorating and such. And I think that’ll pretty much be it for the interior. I do have some more plans for the exterior though…
@grimmgoosegoose2162 жыл бұрын
That sounds awesome! I'm excited to see how you'll craft a closet AND a kitchen! You've done a great job using the (tiny) space and i bet itll be really cool :) its honestly giving me flashbacks to your tiny apartment reorg XD

@@LindsayDaly I have a question, why did you cut your 2x4's in half going across-horizontaly? Same with your plywood.. why didn't you just put the whole piece? Why cut in half? Just asking, is there a reason?.. I am going to use your video to build my bed, you make it look fairly easy 🙂👍
@LindsayDaly2 жыл бұрын
The entire single plywood cut was too big to put in in one piece. (Mainly because the van walls are curved.) I actually tried at first but ended up having to cut it in quarters. - plus, multiple smaller pieces makes it easier to lift up to access “deep storage” under the bed! The 2x4s had basically the same issue, if I can recall - also, at this point I was trying to use up all the little bits and pieces of wood I possibly could, so that also explains the use of smaller pieces somewhat haha.

Hi, can you list all the tools you used throughout your van build?
@LindsayDaly Жыл бұрын
Roughly, off the top of my head? Drill, Circular saw, jigsaw, miter saw, table saw, oscillating multi tool, socket wrench set, screwdrivers, rivnut tool, wire strippers, wire cutters, wire crimpers, stepped drill bits, hole saw bits, and many different drillbits. There’s probably stuff I’m missing but that’s roughly the majority of the tools I used for most of it. Having the right sawblades and drillbits for the material makes a big difference!
