Is there a technical reason why you put the switch on the opposite side of the PCB as compared to the other components?

It has to do with the design of the original cartridges. There is an offset between the edge of the cartridge shell and the card edge. That dictates the chips need to be on the back. The switch is on the front so you can see it when the cart is inserted.
