This is hands down the best bird house tutorial online, thank you! Solid and practical design. One more thing you can do is to treat the bare edges of the roof with paint to stop water intrusion.

Bird house looks great, great design and I like the reinforced entrance to keep the squirrels out. thank you
@adamt.73764 жыл бұрын
Woodchucks will probably prefer enlarging the entrance rather than making a new hole so your metal guard will protect the eggs also against them. You could also consider deepening the entrance by mounting a wooden square around it before screwing the metal guard. This will protect the nest against cats, martens and other 'pawed' predators. My bird house got 'modified' by a woodchuck within several months and now it has both additional layer of wood and a piece of metal around the entrance. :)

Glad to see you used metal hole guards to keep the squirrels from chewing in to eat the babies and destroy the box.. Most plans don't include that important feature. I use 1/4 hardware cloth / electro weld with a hole nipped out in it.

Terrific, thanks. First, thanks for doing good technical research on the birdhouse. I certainly don't want to hurt them and your video really helps that. Second, YES, on voiceover. The essential communicative power of video is in the use of eyes. Splitting the information ingress between ears and eyes is efficient. It allows either for more information in the same time space or a reiteration of vital information via two different media for better learning. Having to take my eyes from the action to read a caption drives me nuts! I panic that I'm missing something. I know it's in fashion now but...still...I KNOW what a table Saw sounds like. Great video! And great English!

Under the roof add a drip edge by cutting a 1/8” groove across the board to prevent rain water from flowing into the birdhouse front by convection. Also you want to toughen the wood inside the house under the hole so the baby birds can get a foothold climbing up.

What a nice and useful video. I'm so glad you chose to use voice commentary, especially when your voice and diction are so clear. Text in a video distracts the viewer from the main activity, which is quite a loss, really. I liked each of your very valid explanations too. I'm going to build a bird house very soon, based on your video. Thanks for the inspiration.

Asiallinen video.

Very much how I build nesting houses, except I put the hinge screws at the bottom so the front swings out from the top. That way, if there are chicks or eggs in the box when you open it, they're less likely to fall out. I had that happen and changed the design.

Great video. There are lots of poorly constructed birdhouses being made and sold. This has lots of good design points and is a very good birdhouse. I recommend two further design elements for a perfect birdhouse. The inside of the birdhouse entrance should be left rough so that the birds claws can get purchase, you did that in your video but did not mention it. I would also include a small gap at the top of the birdhouse where the roof joins the body, this will allow moisture and heat to escape.
@FinnCrafted7 жыл бұрын
I too have read about these features, but decided to only address the major features in this video. Going even further, the bottom ends of the walls could be cut at 45° angles to make water drip off faster and not soak in to the grain.
@lukegamerdonkey66633 жыл бұрын
I found placing inward facing razor blades on the entrance slices the heads off intruder birds like magpies or crows very nice and its good to see mother bluetits feeding their young on the brains and eyeballs of said magpies and crows 😃😃❤️❤️

Great video, but i'm puzzled why, after you cut the angle for the pitch of the roof, did you cut another one, surely yo could just turn the next piece over and have exactly the same angle?
