A Cheap Desktop can be a great tool for #DigitalArt, and its the best way to get into professional software! today we found an old computer on craigslist to make some cool digital art on. Digital art does not have to be expensive with the right hardware. This old computer will run #Photoshop, #Clipstudio, Flash, TVPaint, and Harmony! And it even has a solid state drive. What kind of computer do you use to make digital art?

This is great! There are so many “gaming rig” tutorials online, but not nearly as much for art related stuff! I’m definitely going to send this to whoever asks me about computers for animation.

i think that's because really any computer can do it well enough. there are some important features though to talk about, and i'm surprised it doesn't happen very much. like monitor size, color, and resolution. getting a gpu with the right connection type at a low price, and one that can run the right amount of monitors. ssd's, m.2, and features like StoreMi can all be helpful to the experience, and knowing that you don't need a good gpu helps save so much money.
@diojoestar4766
@diojoestar4766 4 жыл бұрын
@@Rin-qj7zt you dont need a good gpu but atleast a decent one. Photoshop cant instantly rotate your canvas or the click and drag zoom in a shitty gpu. I'd say the low end gpu from 1000 series and 1600 series are great.

@@Rin-qj7zt I would say get at least 1600px900p to 1920x1080 for resolution, the color gamut about 72% NTSC or 98% SRGB and with IPS for great color production with best viewing angle than TN Panel

Actually I kind of disagree with them on the iPad bashing. For around $400 you can get an entry level iPad and pencil. And with Procreate, RoughAnimator you have all the tools to get you started. You can add Luma Fusion and Affinity designer for editing and vector assets. I don’t think they are “industry” equipment exactly, but we are talking broke artist here, and this is probably best digital art set up under $500 Adobe suite, Harmony subscriptions aren’t cheap, neither is TVpaint. So for a starving artist a $250 PC set up plus those software that is a constant bill every month. I think you show on your channel that pro work is totally possible on an iPad.

Hmm, 10 bucks once for Procreate, or 21 bucks every month for the rest of your life just for Photoshop. You're spending as much a year on your Adobe subscription as they did here on their budget PC, and the more apps you add the higher that goes. I think I know which one is better on the budget. I personally know professional concept artists working in Procreate for their work product, and they appreciate getting to do stuff on a device they can carry around as they meet with people requesting changes. They don't have to run back to their desk, they just adjust a layer on their iPad in about one second. And it exports .psd files just fine, a client would literally not know you didn't use Photoshop unless you told them, and it can seamlessly replace Photoshop in your workflow. I've done the Wacom Cintiq thing, and it's great. If that's what you want to do, good for you. When I tried out Procreate and the Apple Pencil, I just enjoyed it so much more and work much faster. It's actually noticeably more responsive. The screen is smaller, which is a shame, but very workable. It's funny, I've seen these guys say it's perfectly fine to use a small non-monitor tablet to make professional art, but they bash the iPad which is larger than those other products they say are fine, and much more effective and easy to work with than those tablets. I know tons of professional artists who use Procreate. Maybe they don't use it in Hollywood (I wouldn't know), but there's a big world outside of Hollywood.

Legos for Adults got me so bad! Fantastic video, I've built my own optiplex 3010 into a $200 beast with rx570, 16g ram, atx-mini amd MB, cheap power supply and SSD drive to run a 22inch cintiq. I've been considering going smaller because I have to move soon, but I made this computer the winter of 2019, and doubt I'll find similar performance to it for less than $600. I used to use a laptop with a pen tablet, but I think part of why I got out of art was how bad my wrist got from drawing on my lap. A pen display on an ergotron is everything I've been craving. Great video and really enjoyed it even if it's not new to me.

Wow, I LOVED this video! My younger sister's looking to start getting into digital art but she's set on getting a laptop rather than a desktop, which I always prefer because of the exact points you made in this video. It was great that you got Taran in the video as well, because I watch LTT all the time and have done so for years so I know how reliable they are. I just started as an art student and the school of art here is *very* reliant on Apple products and basically no one wants to hear otherwise, so they don't realize just how much more they're paying for the logo rather than the hardware. Maybe I'll have to show this video to them and my sister as well to show them why going PC is better for all of this. Great video overall and this definitely deserves as many views as possible.

I suffered from Desktop failure and lost SO MUCH of my content...as crappy as it was, it is like a breath of fresh air because now I can legit, start over with a clean slate. And with that, improve my hardware. I am constantly working on stuff for my art, Comics, illustrations and at some point id like to get into small time animation. But my budget is not so friendly considering we are still in a pandemic. This really helped break down what I would need, can get away with in a desktop and see how customizable it is so later down the line I can upgrade the sides with ease! At first I thought this video would be a somewhat "more advanced" stuff like best setup recommendation, but you really want people to grow and like you said in the last part of the video that hardware understanding is key to digital artist, you really gave them the tools to decide what to get on their own, not just dictating what to get for their workstation setup. I'm no digital artist, but I'm really glad that you shared your knowledge for free which for me shows how much you really love what you do! This is a GEM of a video to send to some peeps that come asking the tech geek what computer to buy on their budget. It needs spanish subs, so if I can contribute to that please let me know. Explaining ALL this to the person that asked me what to buy was taking a really long time so I'm really grateful that you put this together. Thank you!

I wish I had seen this 4 years ago when I first wanted to build a computer for digital drawing--but I had no idea where to start! I had NO tech knowledge whatsoever, and eveything online was gaming/more programming related. Thanks for making this! I wound up getting the $$$ iMac--still works great!

I grew up in the 80’s, learned about PCs during the monochrome era which was confusing at the time because PCs then were outrageously expensive and I never realized that I’d ever afford one. Fast forward to 2000, the WWW became a trend so I purchased my first PC after the Y2K awareness & ordered a dialup membership from my phone carrier. I had no idea what I was buying, other than I could afford $1200 new, which had both, a floppy disk and cd drives, featuring the newly cd-rw capabilities & included the heavy tube monitor! Since then I’ve been purchasing new after the older ones were either too slow or obsolete. I’ve learned more about PCs watching this video than I have ever, in my life. I’ve never knew about the internals & their functions until now. Now I feel confident enough to swap out the internals with just the right upgrades, instead of buying new & overly priced. This has definitely expanded my rustic old brain cells which has earned my subscription! Thank you!
