I continue building at the bushcraft camp, this time we finish building the roof frame and build a raised bed in the bushcraft survival shelter. I cook some fresh broth on the campfire in a cast iron dutch oven. In the next episode we will focus on building the retractable roof and log store.

Enjoy this time with you dad while you can. I love his humor! Give him a huge hug from all of us in the Interlands. I lost my dad this year in New Year’s Day. He was only 76. We used to do stuff like this together when I was younger and we lived closer together.

OHH Geeze Mike, It is such a Treat to see You & Your father in the Woods again.. When I built the Covered area off the Side of Our Camper at the Seasonal Camp Ground we were at for 30 Some odd Years. I Screwed it all together knowing at some time We were gonna take it apart again. Which we Did this Year, It got to the point of not being Economically fun to go out there any more, I am on 10 Acres here at My new Place and We are gonna Make a New camp right Here.. Thake care. Mike M.

Great to see your Dad again! I know many other people were asking for him. Really making headway on the camp. I was just thinking about your first Bush Craft camp and how one of the most difficult things was trying to make a roof. So glad you have the room to make it now. (Mike, your Dad cracks me up! Loving that you're doing this. I play a lot of survival games as i don't have the time or freedom to go do it for real and one of the things you'll notice is you start over and every time you make something cooler, better, and more functional and aesthetic than the last, and that's exactly what I'm seeing here. All your skills, knowledge, experience, and practice coming together to make your new camp even better and more beautiful than the original. I've never been more excited for your videos. And keep up with the ambient and cinematic shots. They always show your roots and passion and pull is into the project and woodland. Thank you so much for all you do.

A noggin is a 4 ounce wooden cup usually whittled from a burl from a tree. Very similar to a kuksa. Your head became known as a noggin because it looks so much like the cup turned upside down. The four and a half ounces of rum as a measure was known as a noig (unsure of spelling)

Fantastic work team! If I were you though, invest in a couple of pairs of log tongues.....makes the shifting of all those materials soooo much easier. Quick and easy to use and will save your back. Nothing wrong with using them for bushcraft either, they are an old tool used by those logging for over a hundred years. They revolutionised the way I shift timber around. (I already have a bad back!!) Love this camp and I am not remotely envious of your woodland....not even slightly....😢

Suggestion...try wooden dowels, say 1 inch or 1.5 inch dowels on joints. Time honored tradition. Many barns in your country and mine were built with them. The trick to em is getting a tight fit but not overly tight. Its an acquired skill, but can save nails if you dont mind investing a bit of time. They make a very solid joint. Just notch the joint lumber before pinning with a dowel. Can make them from branches or saplings. Ive used them in several structures myself over the years.

A noggin as a mug was made in Germanic cultures to look like a head. It was a caricature of a head and ugly like a troll's head. So when used to refer to a person's head it has the meaning of the person's head and implies that the person is ugly. Hence, "Use your noggin" and "Got hit in the noggin" both work

Hi Mike, hope all is well. I just subscribed to Life of Mike and I am looking forward to seeing another set of videos and what I may learn from those. My grandson is coming home from the Army in couple of months and I am going to take him on trip into the woodlands and see if I can teach him about bushcraft. I hope he will be receptive to bushcraft and I hope we can bond and spend time together. Thanks for all your bushcraft videos and what I have learned from you and I am looking forward to spending time in the woods with him and maybe he can learn some things as well. Cheers and keep up the good work.
