heeeeey that's me! 😱 thanks for the shout out! ❤ wonderful little scape and the UG looks really good! 👍

So far the UG is doing ok! It's such a stressful plant to grow 🤣 Oddly I dropped a random bit in one of my crab tanks on the water line and it's doing quite well. Which is messed up because it's straight high mineral tap water.... This plant is a mystery!

In the last video it's like you're the insect and the creepy concrete entrance in the ground is the carnivorous plant! I love these types of plants, especially the pitchers. The trumpet shaped kind can have really beautiful flowers too. Ever since I first saw a nepanthes, I've wanted one but I highly doubt I could keep it alive. I'm still working on ferns 😂. Stunning build! Hope you have a nice weekend 🙂👍

Keeping up with your 100% attendance rate! The UG will be the most tricky from everything I've seen so far but I've managed to keep it going for a month now and it has started growing. So now I just need to keep it going in that direction and I'll be pretty happy!

Amazing work! As for the sarracenia, dont know how cold it gets where your at, but when its time to swap them out, you could set up in some kind of bog outside and keep them year round outiside.
@IndoorEcosystem15 күн бұрын
@zaidlancaster6805 we can get -20c but I haven't seen that in a long time. -12 is pretty normal though. I see a lot of people put them in the garages for winter to keep the frost off them. So, transplanting into a special winter bog will be a good idea like you said, and then i can just move the entire thing when its ready to sleep. I think the biggest risk for the rhizomes is frost and we do get that quite often.
@zaidlancaster680514 күн бұрын
@@IndoorEcosystem Ohh thats a good idea sticking them in the garage when it gets cold. Hmm sounds like you have a pretty simaler climate to the guys at sarracenia northwest, and they leave there plants outside year round. But then again there a huge nursery lol.

My house is frequently infested with flies. I was thinking of putting some carnivorous plants in the trouble spots, mainly in the kitchen due to the garbage and compost buckets. Staying on top of changing them doesn’t seem to cut down on the fly problem. Your nano build is giving me some great ideas. It would look great on my kitchen counter (beside the compost bucket).
@IndoorEcosystem15 күн бұрын
The little Sundews and tropical pitchers should do well for that job and you don't have to worry about the dormancy period some of them have.
@2011Kestrel14 күн бұрын
@ Sundews are common in my area. Pitcher plants less so, but I do still come across them from time to time. I was thinking of harvesting a few, but since I’m in southern Ontario the plants would probably need dormancy to do well. I would rather leave them be than accidentally kill them through ignorance and miss handling. I’m also leaning towards tropical species in the hopes they would be easier to care for year round. And my local pitcher plants can get quite large - I’d rather have several smaller plants to take out the flies. Says a mix of Venus flytraps, sundews, and maybe one or two small pitcher plants. I have grow lights under my kitchen cabinets - leftovers from my attempts to grow herbs on the counter - so a nano tank beside the compost bucket would be lovely.
@IndoorEcosystem14 күн бұрын
@@2011Kestrel Some of the tropical species of pitchers or sundews would be perfect for under those grow lights. I'm not 100% sure but I think there are some smaller types of pitchers available now. Some of the weird hybrid ones.

New suggestion -make a shallow biotope tank with a huge driftwood in the middle with a waterfall ,mosses ,ferns and carnivorous plants😊🎉❤
@IndoorEcosystem13 күн бұрын
@kavindudilshan7108 It will be added to the list! Great idea! I have a project underway in the perfect tank for it (100x25x15cm) but once that one is finished, I'll move on to your ideaa! It'll be a tropical carnivorous biotope or at least as close as I can get to one here!

@evilone543 it's such a tough plant. And this is my first time trying it as well. Mines going pretty good so far, though one side melted back a little but the other side has started carpeting... it's so random... I suspect as I got to the last bits of the cup the roots were more damaged so took on more stress.

Am I the only on one thinking, why he is using plants, that need a winter break at all? I mean he says the reason at the end but for myself, it doesnt make sense, pickin apart the dormant requiring plants in the winter if you can use permanent indoor growable carnivorous plants like Nepenthes, Pinguicula or more of the Droseras. They would do awesome in such a setup! Cant say anything against the scape, dude the wood really fits in the rocks, like it once was a tree growing out of it. 10/10
@IndoorEcosystem13 күн бұрын
@manuelha.7450 Availability is the primary reason. Sometimes you have to grab what you can before you don't see it again for 6 to 12 months. The ones I wanted very rarely pop up. I'm glad you watched to the end though to see the explanation. I have plans for the 2 other species as well so they aren't just doomed to the scrap heap 😊. There will be a fully tropical indoor version and a temperate one down the track.
@manuelha.745013 күн бұрын
@@IndoorEcosystem Thx for your answer. Didnt thought about the availability. I am lucky that there are so many awesome carnivorous nurseries in my area (south Germany). Somehow I thought its the same in other countries😅 Nonetheless, I am looking forward to some updates on the project in the future. Cant wait!💚
@IndoorEcosystem13 күн бұрын
@manuelha.7450 I appreciated your comment to be honest. A lot of people jump to conclusions before watching, which is why I put the explanation further to the end to weed out the people who comment before watching fully. I'm in Poland so not exactly far away from you, but the availability around here is fairly limited. So I generally have to grab things when I find them and then plan future projects moving forward. Otherwise, I might not find them for a very long time. Ordering online is an option and availability is a bit better but quite often things get shaken up so I like to avoid it where possible. The only plant in here that stresses me out is the UG. It's super hard to keep happy but so far after nearly a month now it's doing pretty well. So I'm hoping I can keep that going. Otherwise it's going to be a nice moss carpet.

Carnivorous plants need to eat. What and how will you be feeding them?
@IndoorEcosystem15 күн бұрын
My girlfriend has a little plant collection and from time to time we get a few funds gnats so I'm hoping they'll find their way to the tank. It's better than using those yellow sticky pads. Otherwise they'll get some flightless fruitfies to keep them happy.

@@IndoorEcosystem I don’t like flypaper. I find using the stuff to deal with insects somewhat inhumane. Even if they are “just bugs”, it still bothers me. I prefer to deal with unwanted pests by removing whatever is attracting them in the first place. Or by using more natural means - my cats are quick to take out anything that moves. 🐈🐈⬛🐈🐈⬛😄

@ Yeah, I just threw out the remains of a leather loveseat. After twenty years with cats it was pretty far gone. And that was just from them running over and climbing on the loveseat, not deliberately scratching at it. I even had bath mats under the cover protecting the more vulnerable spots. Not even the furniture restore/resellers wanted the loveseat when my cat herd was done with it. I weep for the new one….
