Thanks for posting this. I just finished putting mine together using your video and I’d say it’s by far the most common sense way to go about building a smitty. It doesn’t need to be an excercise in over-engineering, it just needs to get the job done. I tested mine with a couple hundred pounds of firewood in it and it handled it without issue and pulled like a dream! Also love that it breaks down and goes together easily. ANd all for a total price of $18. 🤣

Awesome, I’m glad to hear that it’s working out for you! Being able to break it down is amazing and it’s so simple to build.

I'm going to make the same one only with shorter down hill skis and then we can compare! Thanks Brian...awesome work.

That would be great!

Looks awesome. Been thinking about a Smitty for a couple of years, but didn't want to attach anything to my sleds or shack and need it to breakdown. Going to give this a try.

I’m glad you like it! I needed something that I could easily break down and this is really simple. It works great as long as I’m not going up or down a steep hill!

This is great. I’m going to make mini version for my livescope when I’m hole hoping. Only question, I’m confused by the small pieces of PVC that fall into be big PVC that’s connected to the skis. I think I understand that as basically reinforcement but is the 3 way split connecting to the main 1 1/4” or the 1” on the inside?

The 1" pvc connects into the 3-way. The 1 1/4" pieces are a hair shorter, so the weight rests directly on the skis instead of up on the pvc joint.

Do the sled sit on top of the pipes or is it suppose to fit into the gap between the pipes?
@huntfishcamp Жыл бұрын
It sits on top. I made the width the same as grooves in my shack, so that sits more secure. As long as everything is reasonably flat, it’s perfect! Snowdrifts are fine, but piled up snow or pressure ridges sometimes require pulling things off.

How do the PVC pipes hold up after cold weather?
@huntfishcamp Жыл бұрын
They did great all last winter and I had them out in temps lower than -20.

The only change I’m making is I’m going to bolt the end caps to the skis rather than just screws from the top down.

What is the sled you add??
@huntfishcamp Жыл бұрын
I pull around my Frabill Aegis shack loaded up. For the sleds, any ice fishing sled works great and they seem to stay on well with the friction tape that I added. Anytime there is more than 2" of snow on the ice, we use these.

The video must be deceiving but the pipe looks bigger than 1” and 1 1/4”
@huntfishcamp Жыл бұрын
The 1 1/4” is schedule 40 pvc and the 1” is schedule 30…The measurements give inside dimensions for the pipe. The more I use this Smitty, the more I like it!!
