Awesome video. This project came out beautifully. Love the aesthetic on this one. For the body, I'd recommend giving resin printing from PCBWay (or other places like JLCPCB) a go. I've been really impressed with the quality and price point. I use FDM for prototyping, but I've switched over to ordering resin prints for my final builds. It saves me so much effort on finishing, and the results are great. This build came out amazing, but this may save you a ton of time and pain for future builds 😀 Anyway, keep up the great videos. Looking forward to more!

Do the threaded inserts work with resin? Because he used them a lot in this project.
@AlainPilon Жыл бұрын
@@EvenTheDogAgreesi doubt, based on my work with epoxy. You have to drill undersize then tap them. But I don’t know how easy it would be to perform at that small scale.

You might want to consider printing parts in a non-matte filament if you are going to paint them anyways. Matte filament tends to have less strong layer adhesion than non-matte types from what I saw in a CNC Kitchen video. Printing at higher temperatures also helps with making stronger parts. E.g. 230C for PLA

Another great video. Definitely subscribed. You might want to look into cerakote finishing instead of paint. Not for this type of build but for something like your spacemouse build just for the durability. I’ve done cerakote on plastics for gun parts and they can be oven cured. I’m sure pla wouldn’t be able to take the heat but probably abs would be. The finishing and durability is amazing. Can’t wait for the next video!

The case looks really nice after the work you put in. You use PCB way for custom boards as a progression from hand made to a more refined product. Maybe for another project you could see the 3d printing as stage one and when the design works you could also have that send off to be printed with something like shapeways?
@salimbenbouz Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, that could work as well. @pcbway offers 3D printing, CNC and a lot of manufacturing services. They could have done all the entire production and I can assemble on my side, but as you said I need to be sure that my design works first and when I need to produce more then one.

Really awesome project, @salimbenbouz ! Question about the pcbs -- do you also have a gerber where you've panelized the pcbs?
