Props on the compression ratio. The greatest break from motorhead tradition I've made so far is to add compression and boost at the same time. Those who don't know and parrot what they hear and read without any experience otherwise will say; Boost, or high compression, not both. What they don't know is that modern engine tech turns that into; Boost & high compression, or turbo lag, not both. A high compression turbo street motor is a street-wrinkler and a transmission crusher. That's what my modern chevy V6 became, only I accomplished the compression ratio noted here on premium fuel with water/meth injection assist, which was important to me because the car needed to be truly streetable and that means being able to pull into any fuel station and pump and go. I didn't hear concrete goals mentioned here to put the power levels into perspective; intended boost level and most helpful to your followers, the concrete limit ranges you established on pump fuel. I believe this info is important for the masses because judging from the overly complicated manner in which this motor is designed, requiring excessive disassembly to access certain key parts (I can remove rods and pistons from the GM V6 with the motor sitting in the engine bay fully mounted for example), suggests that a basic rebuild alone is pretty expensive and time consuming, long before one reaches the cost of forged rods and pistons on a motor whos weak link at the ~500/500 point is the rods. Piston technology is pretty well advanced and the stock piston would probably hold well beyond the stock rod limit established and would be more desirable from the point of the original design compatibility and practicality. Just pointing out some things that make performance more affordable for the masses, who are unwilling, or not able to go all out on expenses, but would like to have a smoking fast car. Great job on the demo. Here is an example source for what happens when the limit is exceeded; kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqrTmoyLgtt4idk

a torque plate simulates the compression and characteristics of the head being on the engine like it would be while its running, its not really about stabilizing anything.
@traxxasslash955 жыл бұрын
It simulates compressing and distorting the block when you torque the head bolts down. Imagine squeezing clay, as you squeeze it, it "squishes" out and widens - the block is doing that at the interface with the head so the bore is distorted at the top. So you use the surface plate to make sure the bores end up actually cylindrical when you bolt the head on. Once you take the surface plate off they end up a little conical until you bolt the head back on and compress the block with the head bolts.
@ldnwholesale85525 жыл бұрын
A Torque plate simulates the head being bolted on the block. To be done properly main caps must be bolted on and torqued, use the type of head bolt or stud to be used. Without, a 4 bolt per cylinder engine will have 4 'gaps' where the ring should be sealing. the bore is only sort of round. This is often accentuated by engine heat. My 150000 mile Ford M engine had 4 areas where you could see the original hone marks. Not good. A SBC with 5 bolts per hole is better but still needs to be torque plated. The downfall of the LS! ALL performance engines should be prepped like such, it is free horse power as well as longevity. Though with these Datsun motors they just explode with boost. And 11-1 is too much for a turbo engine even with E85.
@rushking195 жыл бұрын
Wrong lol its because the block flexes when your torque it down

from my experience, on a vq35hr, just a de-stroked 37.. same block) on a mainline hub dyno, and twin efr7163's. similar to your setup. 900whp is reliable. 950-1000 is the limit for stock liners. well, they dont break, just wobble around and push head gaskets. i had 920, no problems. (just a forged bottom end and arp standard head studs) pushed it to 950. and the stock head gasket let go. i thought it needed more head clamp, so i managed to make vr38 12mm arp 625 stubs work in the vq35hr. and it made no difference at all. still pushed the gasket and a cosworth one too this time) so id keep it at 900wheel on a mainline. (1000-1050 dyno jet) :)

Lathe turn the shaft on your ring grinder to 1/2" so a battery drill can run it. Speeds up the job a bunch! Buy the tool from ISKY so you can o-ring the top of the cylinders by hand. It is easy and stops blowing head gaskets.
