Great videos. Why not use polyester resin for the glass tape? It melts so nice and smooth.

Hi, Polyester resin should not be used in wooden boats. The Resin has only little adhesion to wood and will eventually come apart. Always use Epoxy resin when building wooden boats.

Thank you for yet another instructive video. You made it look so easy. I would be all nerves doing it. Perhaps, let me ask a potentially silly question on behalf of those like me who have not an inkling how and why in hull work with epoxy and fibreglass - why do you scrap after the two are laid? Quite a bit of material can be seen coming of the scraper. Won't that hurt the integrity of the fibreglass weaving? I think I would be all nervous doing it and probably allow all the epoxy layers on the hull before doing a fairing to smooth all over. Sorry, a question from an inexperience learner.

Hi Joseph. Most of the material you can see coming off the scrapper is from the tape's edge, it shouldn't matter much. And yes I did hit the cloth on a few spots but that was on purpose. The tape had some "vertical lumps" from the curvature and although they were filled with resin underneath they were protruding too much and it would be hard to fair later. The small localized cloth integrity reduction in this area was not relevant as the chinelogs provide plenty of gluing area. This tape is important as a plywood endgrain/impact protection too, and that was not affected.

great video! I know how hard that was to cut a hole in the bottom. just doesn't seem right, does it? I like the big spatulas you are using for your fairing compound. I am taking note. I left a lot of rough spots on mine when applying fairing compound and the more you leave, the more you have to sand. I finally got my bottom nearly perfect and the paint reflected the effort as will yours! great work. oh, and what nice lines this design has, especially for a hard chine, really quite shapely!

Many people carry the boat on roof bars. But make sure you build it with light marine plywood. The boat is 4.7m long and 1.5m wide.
