Building a Hollow Limb Bow

Making a hollow limb self bow from scratch. I used sweet cherry wood (Prunus avium) to build this one. The stave had perfect grain for this project. I had to remove some reflex from one limb, as it was huge. I ended up with a bow drawing 35lb at 24" (approx 54" ntn). It's a sweet shooter, and for this draw weight a hard hitter too!

Quick tip for multiple adjustments with steam: You can use a tea kettle with flexible dryer hose clamped over the spout for steaming wood. Just boil the water in the kettle, insert the stave into the ducting hose and loosely plug the end with a rag or cloth. Gives a pretty consistent steaming.

Well, why don't you try another one? You'll maybe fail again, or suceed. In both cases, you could (or even should) try a third one! And so on.... ;) A musket on the other hand is a very impressive project! Main thing: Enjoy what you're doing.
