For the copper refinery signage, given that you have exactly 26 in a block it would seem like a perfect opportunity to do numbered blocks with letter references, i.e 1A - 1Z, 2A - 2Z etc

He could also delineate the segments into sets of 13 instead of 26, so that set of 13 alone doesn't look out of place.

Hey Darren, Ambitious is a polite way of saying it. I would say more of a zealous or driven type build. Reminds me of your crystal oscillator build nestled in the edge of the Northern Forest. But it I think you’ve crossed in to a realm you once stated, while building your first starter factory, you’d never be in. Easily comparable to the likes of ImKibits or TotalXclipe, and others, with builds large and grandiose. But what sets yours apart is making these builds doable to beginners and seasoned alike. From the presentations and detailed explanations, making it look easy to the extra time and effort to plan and show the plans and the inner workings. Toping it off, offering to share what you have done to the community as a whole. Even with the longer episodes, its like watching and learning all in one and enjoyable. Something I always look forward to. Normally, I never do channel memberships or the like, but you and your channel are worth it. Yours is the first and only channel I have become a channel member to. And all I can really say is Thank You. For all the extra time you take in the planning, presentation, editing; Thank you. I hope you continue for years to come.

I feel like they should introduce mega sized refineries and such so that 400+ of a specific building isn’t necessary. By the time you need the production amounts of 400 refineries, there should be super sized versions unlocked

And I'm super curious to see how all this early-game work will pay off in the late game! As a channel member I just wanted to say, since you mentioned feeling some pressure to "deliver" with all the added support, I don't expect you to deliver any more than you were already doing before I started paying to support you. while working out the layout from around 28:35, make sure to join at the road 3 foundations down, just cover the caterium node from above and then start joining towards the road, darren has done that but maybe he forgot to show that, the floorplan shows that the caterium miner is indeed inside the first room

1:05:30 One way you could solve the sign problem for the Copper refineries is by making signs that delineate the segments by numbers as well. This means you can keep the number at two digits, but have a sign at the end (and/or front) of the segment telling you what numbered segment it is. Given your set up, you could separate the segments into sets of 13 or 26. For example, if you wanted to look at a specific refinery in the middle of the set up that could be known as Refinery C1-06 or S01-06. Something like that.

G'day mate - I am loving your designs (if not a 'bit' big for those who are beginners) however, have you considered the physics of a Water Tower in this refinery set-up, to reduce the amount of pumps required? I use them all the time, and they are fantastic. Potentially this could be located on the inner corner of your dam wall (on the small island there, as you turn the dam from East-West to North-South.... -for those of you who don't know, at the moment in Update 8, if you build a tower that has a head-lift higher than where your tallest point will be of your factories, and take it back down to them, you only need to build one (1) set of pumps to pump the water up to the top of the water tower. Love the walkthrough, loving the blueprints - great job!
@WhatDarrenPlays

I dont personally use water towers as i consider them an exploit. Not that i mind others doing it, but if they patch it one day then the build wouldn’t work so I just avoid that.

I've watched a lot of different series involving Satisfactory over the course of the game's development and this is by far the one I am or have been most excited for updates on. The scale of these builds is incredible and the fact that we have Blueprints now makes builds like this seem much less intimidating so it's not out of reach for players who may not have as much time. Thanks for sharing everything regarding these builds and your plans moving forward. I can't wait to see what this world looks like next episode, much less what it'll look like in the next couple of months if this continues!

What I like to do to even out pump heights is to build a water tower - either on the roof or as a separate building. It takes more pumps, but it keeps the amount needed uniform.

Hi, I would like to suggest something, I don't know if there are other people in this situation but, my suggestion is to have a video or a segment in the video that you show how to build the blueprint itself. I know that it could be a lot of more work and I totally understand if you chose to not do so, but the reason I suggest that is that some people like me play at GeForce Now and it is not possible to upload blueprints to the cloud machine (well, I didn't find a way when searched it up), and knowing how to build the blueprints could be useful to recreate the blueprints in that cases. PS: english is not my primary language so sorry for any sentence errors, I hope that I was able to communicate my thoughts
@Tdwise
@Tdwise 9 ай бұрын
I second that. Although I found a workaround if the came can load in your machine. Mine does but it looks terrible. In that case, I launched the game locally, build a couple blueprint managers and load the blueprints to them. Then I saved the game and launched it on Geforce now. I found the blueprints build with their descriptions and all sitting there and waiting to be saved again to my Geforce now save file. (I assume that they sit on Nvidia's servers along the rest of the save since they are still there after many sessions) Even this is a half measure and it won't work for everyone. Plus I may launch Geforce Now one day and they 'll be gone, so a separate video on how to make the blueprints would be nice.

For the signing problem what you could do is separede the section by letters and just count the machines for those sections, and in the entry hall if you want to know the total you can place it like a dashboard, Section A - 32 machines, 3405901293123981732 ores per minute
@drums24seven
@drums24seven 9 ай бұрын
Loving this series Darren! Quick suggestion for your refinery sign problem (mentioned around 1:05:45 in the video): what about 2 signs, with the left one displaying the hundreds column (maybe with a leading zero so there isn't a weird gap between the hundreds and tens place), and the right one for the tens and ones columns of the machine numbers? It might not completely solve the need for multiple sign edits on each machine, but you could create blueprints for the 0xx, 1xx, 2xx, and 3xx machines so as to minimize the number of sign edits needed. Could be the compromise you were looking for. Thank you for all the effort you put into these videos!
@_JustMonika
@_JustMonika 9 ай бұрын
Could also do each section as a letter, so two signs where the first is a letter, so A-01 to A-99 then B-01 to B-99 and so on.

i do see an issue with the truck manifold system youre going to use. since the last one will use less ore than the other ones, if the spacing between your trucks isnt optimal at anypoint, the stations storagecapacity might be maxed out and therefor the next truck could dump less or in one of the first stations and dump its remaining ore into the last station, which in turn will make one of the first stations have a deficit in ore input. i hope it makes sense to you, the way i explained it. the remedy for this issue, is to run all your truckstations outputs except the 120 one, through "belt balancers" and have the 120 output station have an overflow back into one, or multiple, of the earlier stations, so that any excess ore dumped in the last station, due to truck spacing, will overflow back in all the 780 lines and get balanced between them. there are a few of videos about belt balancers im pretty sure and im very sure a google search will show the calculator page with some examples. basically you can connect any ammount of unequal input belts to a series of splitters and mergers to get equal output belts. in theory your truck manifold are equal input belts, but as soon as theyre not spaced perfectly and a stations buffer is full, they will become unequal, thats why you do need this system to not run into issues later on. you were talking about the foot print size because with stacking refineries, you would need alot more pumps. its very worth, imo, to use water towers to provide headlift in tall buildings. there are videos of how to make them on youtube. i havent finished the video yet, so i dont know if you run into this next thing, but i hope youre aware that the oceans water has its own border of where you can actually place water extractors. there is a gap between the world border and this "water border" where its visually water, but you cant place water extractors there. hope this helps! looks like a great build so far!

An option I thought of instead of using numbers for the machines, is letters. A to ZZ is 676 values, plenty to cover all of those machines. If I recall correctly each "area" is 18 machines so you could use the first letter as a "segment" and the second letter for each machine AA, AB => segment a, machine a; segment a, machine b. I hope that makes sense.

But as always great work to show and make it easy to follow along with you sharing blueprints and explanations :)

Understandable but of the 400ish refineries this build aims to have, we only have the ability to build about 30% of it right now. The space and sizing is to future proof it for when we get to Mk.4 belts, and then Mk.5. It’ll make revisiting and upgrading very very easy

@@WhatDarrenPlays Yes, the extra files are indispensable. Especially when you talk about the roads. which, in combination with the video, is quite a challenge to get to the right place. First I tried this without the blueprints and recreated the roads myself via previous videos. That went well until, for example, you processed the first stretches of roads from the steel foundry factory to home base. There you applied 10 blueprint pieces and then went down 3 pieces. That came out further for me than you showed in your video. That was the point for me where I immediately thought I need those files and luckily I did. Especially now in episode 9 with the set-up of the dam and that floor of the factory. Those attached jpg files are super useful. But I really love it. thanks for all your work

Quick tip for those building it: don't keep on having the ctrl key pressed when you blue print the refineries. For some reason, the elevators won't align with their splitters (in the next video). I got crazy figuering out what the reason was. If you blue print the refineries, you have to release the ctrl key in between single placements for it to work. This would have saved me a significant amount of time.

For your signs at 1:05:52 You could use a higher base. If you only had 256 I'd suggest using hexadecimal. If you've got less than 360 you could do base 36 for the tens (0-9 then a-z) digit and keep just base 10 for the ones digit.

This is why I like overclocking. Just by going 200% you have cut the total amount of machines you need in half. I have a caterium plant at the very same waterfall, and am using the 3 closest pure nodes, one being at the falls. Refineries overclocked to 200% can have 10 supported by a single 480 belt of ore (what I am up to atm) That means with 3 nodes being mined, each at 480 items a min atm, I can handle 30 refineries (or 60 if you don't overclock them). Plus water wise 1 extractor also overclocked can supply up to 5 of them with mk. 1 pipes. On top of all of that it is already built with Mk. 5 belts in mind, using a smart splitter at the end of the row of 10 refineries with it set to overflow. Beyond it, is another 10 refineries, all waiting for when I update the belt work to 780 items a min. Thus, 20 refineries can support 1 pure node at current max item per min (780), needing just 4 water extractors to provide water to them in groups of 5. Or double each number if you are going with no overclock. This also means doing the same setup, needing only 16 refineries for pure copper for 480 line, or 26 for 780 with overclocking. All from a single pure copper node.

The drawback is power though, a 100% refinery runs 30MW. A 200% refinery runs 75MW. So while it can be nice to balance numbers it feels less efficient overall I guess.
@TAiiNE
@TAiiNE 6 ай бұрын
@@WhatDarrenPlays Power really has never been an issue in this game. I've seen youtubers do stupid crazy mega builds and still running on coal. ImKibitz in his playthrough overclocked everything and never had issues with power. I'm also over clocking everything (mainly as my desktop is 11 years old with an amazing gtx 950 and it helps cut down the lag not having as many things up) and haven't ran into power issues. To each their own. Just stating that 30 to 75 seems like a lot, until you realize that 2 refineries would be 60mw, by going 200% on one, that is the same as running 2 refineries, it's 75. So 15 more mw. That even scaled up is barely a blip on my power graph.

Hey Darren! Been super enjoying the series! I had a quick question regarding this build. In your previous episodes, you have prefaced many of the builds with reasoning as to why we are doing what we are doing. Many of which used very small amounts of ore compared to this build. Are you able to be more specific at this time when you say "12,000 ingots to meet our copper demand for a long time to come"? I figured a copper factory was coming, but was very much surprised when we set out to make 12000 ingots. Instead of utilizing 1 or 2 nodes in grassy fields. Thanks for any answers you can give and keep up the great work!

Yeah so because we have blueprints and roads we’re able to build much larger than before. The idea isnt really to ramp up to 12000 instantly, as mentioned we dont have the power nor the belt speed to do that. But this is a forward planned build, the goal is to build it for belts of 270 now, and upgrade it in the future. This way we never have to rethink belts or how gather more copper instead of we just revisit this place, upgrade the belts and maybe add more trucks to the existing route. I guess the idea is to “one and done” build, so I dont have to come back in game or make multiple videos on the same things. If we build big now we dont have to build here again or for this resource for a long time.

@WhatDarrenPlays Thanks so much for the quick response! From what I understand, we will be exporting these copper bars to various facilities so we don't have to source the product in several places? This episode seems like a marked change in pace for the series. Can we expect future builds to be forward planned as well? Perhaps on a same or even larger scale?

I havent fully worked out how much copper will be used on site and how much sent away, but it seems like a good idea to reserve some for future use. Depending on how these two episodes go will determine how big I build… certain factories wont be that forward planned, like the motor factory will be small ish I think as you dont need that many for a long time, but it might be part of a larger build overall… dont know yet, I’m sort of week-by-week in my planning and struggling to even get them out on time let alone think about future buids and their scale 😂

49:35 hey Darren, just an idea. What do u think about curving the edges of the truck stations? In the row of stations u can curve the edges by making it fully cylindrical to make it look smoother and not so flat if that make any sense ^^’ lmk what u think?

Hi @WhatDarrenPlays, Format and information given is great but I feel like this build is a little ambisious and too much of a jump from the builds that have come before it. Its hard to see the end goal when ive spent 2 nights just doing the foundations then to find out they are a few blocks off then having to trouble shoot that. I really want to follow along and build along but im loosing heart looking at this build becuase what do you need all that copper for anyhow? Cheers Matt

There's an issue with MK.2 fluid pipes, the developers talked about it that you shouldn't try having 100% efficiency of water supply because the pipes have some issues with flow rate so your factory could suffer from it

I'm enjoying the series, and I've thrown a bit of $$ at it, so my money is where my mouth is. It's too late to change anything since I'm coming to this months later, but I still feel like I'd like to throw a comment in here. Just like with the power plant, I'd really love a version that stuck with 'ok, here's what I can do with (for example) tier 4 tech. Let me get my brain around one set of rates and ratios, and worry about expansion with higher techs later on. Nothing wrong with a discussion of later capabilities. But when I restart on Sept 10th, I intend to maybe keep the foundation dimensions set out for the power plant, but only build and connect what I can actually use with mk 3 belts and mk2 miners. That'll have me laying a lot of concrete, but only futzing with what I can use in the early mid game. And now, this refinery is even MORE bananas. I get it that we're talking end game stuff here, but how about letting us walk before we fly? I lose all sense of momentum while I'm plopping down vast amounts of machines and logistics that I'm not even going to use for many hours -and that I don't yet understand.

for your signs, maybe do Hex for the numbers... lol FF = 255 still not 300 but creating your own type numbering system like going to JJ instead would allow up to 400 total. If you used the full alphabet, that would be through ZZ which would be 36*36 = 1296 total machines you can label 00 thru ZZ

The only reason I would mind an extra 40 megawatts of power consumption in a factory is if it was integral to maintaining power. Because in the unlikely event that you lose power, you need to be able to restart those factories, and every megawatt counts. A factory like this one isn't integral to power, so it wouldn't matter, but if it was a fuel plant that powered a section of a nuclear power plant and you didn't catch a single, small mistake and you consume more fuel than you produce and you crash that fuel plant, causing that nuclear plant to crash, then the process of restarting that would be all the more difficult if there were an extra 40 megawatts to provide.

The save is updated for the start of this episode, but I'm not giving out a save file mid-way through a build incase other people finish it first and make videos. (this happened before to me, sort of) in another few episodes, I'll give out the save again more updated. It'll always be a few episodes behind.

A little idea for the clipping thingy for the signs on the refinery. You could have let's say for the exemple 4 blocks of 50 refinery called a, b, c, and d. So instead of having refinery 200 you refer to it as refinery 50-D but you just write 50.

Add alphanumeric characters to your refinery "license plates" e.g. A1.....Z9 gives 260 plates, inverting i.e. 1A...9Z provides another 260. Then there's all alphanumeric AA, AB, AC,....ZX, ZY, ZZ, which provides more than you need.

Hey darren! Great video as always! I do wanna ask tho Why not have the certain trucks responsible for certain nodes and stations instead of manifold 4800 / 5 is 960 and thats easily divisible by alot of numbers, so we'd just need to find resource nodes that sum up to 960 to each station.. if ya know what i mean Since we are already doing "divide and conquer" with roads, i feel like that makes sense!
