Nice pie cuts and argon back purging. Makes all the difference. The 3.6 badge on the intake was a nice touch as well. Great to see a proper stainless mandrel exhaust with v-bands, Y-pipe, flex joints, etc done correctly. Exactly how I build my exhausts whenever I fab one, and really the only way to do it IMO.

I'd relocate that engine intake if I were you, unless you want hydrolock on the first wet road. I'd route it from the manifold, up to a bonnet vent, extending back toward the windscreen so it gets the pressure from the scuttle/window turbulence, for a ram charge effect. Renault used to pull air from the wheelarch, they used to put the transmission cooler there too - they soon learnt from that mistake - engine ingested water far to regular and the cooler had the life expectancy of a Mitsu over the Marianas..
@TheReapersSon2 жыл бұрын
I don't think the engineers of this product considered such details. This whole build is meant to be aesthetically pleasing. Furthermore, I don't think the people driving this car will be doing so in wet conditions. This car will sit in the garage until the sun comes out, or there's a show.

Great build man, very clean, I honestly think that the car deserves a nice airbox on the right side of the engine bay to fill in for the empty space there. While your welded intake is great work, that empty space is outbalanced by the engine size. A shiny black airbox, or a carbon fiber one, maybe even one that has the same lines as the engine intake. It would create a great symmetry in there. I think you should at least try.
@TheLenki42 жыл бұрын
Great video, great project. I think i notice some chassis flex because this engine is pretty powerful and torquey compared to the factory options for this car, also these cars were built really poorly in those years compared to what we have now. It might just be my eyes lying to me, but maybe it is flexing. I wish everything great to you all with the car and future projects.
@digitalparadigms2 жыл бұрын
You've just stumbled into the advanced VW classroom mate, I'm going to have to see your schedule. ;) The mk1 jetta is primarily limited to torsional flexing during the apex of turns while under power. The chassis is still stiff enough that it will sometimes lift it's inside wheel during VERY aggressive turning. No damage occurs from this. Most mitigate chassis flex with front strut bracing, triangulation of rear strut bracing, half to full cage and or welding and plate placement on the frame/unibody itself. One may choose any or all of these methods depending on the use. The mk1/mk2 Jetta is well balanced, even more so than Golf/Golfo/Rabbit and both respond well to strut tower methods. My experience is primarily with mk1 & mk2 VWs. Mk2 frame is adequate for up to 1000hp with just strut bracing. However I've ripped several strut towers running aggressive suspension settings on public roads, this has nothing to do with excessive power. I have had endless broken motor mounts, till I went to custom solid aluminium and/or urethane. All that said, sorry 😐, there's absolutely no way that you saw chassis flex in this video. Besides, being the welder he is, I'm sure it's all buttoned up.

Grats on taking a full width radiator and making it a half width with that cover. Only thing that side is doing is acting as a heat sink. IMO there should be flap or louvers in it to allow airflow while moving.
