Maybe a raspberry pi zero w with one of those mini touch screens. Then make space for a stylus compartment and a small battery. It could be a cool and portable cyber deck.

I feel like a small Lithium battery pack that could be removed for it to be charged with an other device, and with a Raspberry Pi Zero it would be a little cyberdeck station or something neat like that. Seems doable to me at least

You should use a protruding switch or a contact at the top, so that opening the lid also acts as a power switch and turns it ON. That would be cool

If you take an altoids tin, a box cutter knife blade and a support to keep the blade off the ground, you can score a line on the base of the altoids tin and split it down that line. Then, you can print a 100% fit part, with screw holes and screw the two parts of the base of the altoids tin around it for a more filled out fit. At that size, using 1mm screws is more than enough. If you happen have an old, defunct laptop you can remove the brass bosses and screws from it.
@flurples9 ай бұрын
that's a good idea! The filled out fit would make projects nicer for sure. But I would imagine wouldn't it be difficult to keep the seam pretty?
@generic133729 ай бұрын
The keycaps turned out amazing. What would be a great addition is a type of mouse input. Maybe a track point or just an upside down laser mouse sensor would work, or turn the the whole tin into a mouse with a sensor at the bottom.

My 2 cents to properly "smd" solder the microcontroller board, coming from my humble experience in implementing VIAs on my home-made PCBs: 1) Make a custom footprint on your board with a wider offset and longer pads; 2) Use a solid wire and strip off the insulation plastic wrapping it; 3) Thread it inside the microcontroller pin holes starting from the bottom pcb face, let it poke through the first pin hole; 4) Grab the longer wire end and let it go through the bottom of the next hole, grab it from the top and let it pass under the pcb, inside the next pin hole and so on, until completion; 5) Solder the wire on the pcb top side for every pin; 6) Cut the wire on pcb top just before every pin and straight up every wire cut perpendicular to the microcontroller pcb side and parallel to the main pcb pads for every pin; 7) Repeat the process for the other pcb side and solder them on the pcb; I hope it's clear enough, because English it's not my native language. 😅 Congratulations for this beautiful project.👍

But nothing really suited my needs. This video got spilled into my recommended and having watched it, it makes me think about my keyboard idea again. Maybe I could design my perfect keyboard after all? I might just dream something up. (I’m totally lacking the skills to make more than a concept sketch, but even that could be fun).

One potential improvement would be to remix the microcontroller PCB or use a CNC machine to have castellated edges so that it's easier to solder onto the back of the keyboard circuit board, assuming you don't want to directly solder all of the components directly on there. There also exists SMD headers that'll let you use the holes already on the microcontroller board.
