Building A Minecraft Castle The Right Way (According To Mojang)
People have been making castles in Minecraft for years but is there are right to make them? In this video we take a look at how Mojang would make a castle using the book Minecaft Medieval Fortress as our guide. I fully recreate the example castle to see how well it holds up to modern Minecraft building styles!

Mojang was actually quite accurate on the hay bales in the dungeon. Hay was often strewn on the floor, made it easier to clean out the prisoners filth.

Except for the fact that dungeons never existed underground in the medieval period. Dungeon comes from the word Donjon, which was the tallest tower of the castle. Later they became underground, but that's like 16th or 17th century type thing. As for hay, they had that in the halls and taverns too.

@@gerythionargarys7848 I know, I also watch shadiversity. However, dungeon can in modern times be interpretted as a place to store prisoners, wether it be in some cellar, a tower, a stable or whatever. If someone needed to be locked up, and werent noble enough to get some furniture, if it was good enough for animals, it was good enough for the riff raff.

It is basically the simplest good-looking portcullis you can make. It is literally double piston extenders on the top and bottom, with two Gravity Blocks on the bottom to push the thing up. Personally, I prefer the triple piston extender version, since that lets horses through, but I don't think horses were in the game when this book was published.

Actually ''good' castles back then were awful. Everyone who wasnt related to the ''king'' or commander had to sleep in a large room and had only one furnace to keep them all warm (which was about 30-40 people) And you were luck if you had a 3 brick thick wall all the way around your one *mayybe* two story ''castle''. At that there was likely some small animal pen (for wild horses or caught wild chickens) that would be near you, to stink up the entire place.. No hate just facts. The castles nowadays and on movies are super fancy and not at all what castles were back then (the actual times were they got the movie from)
@credinzel6996
@credinzel6996 3 жыл бұрын
@@naomigwolfe8112 That isn't true either. Castle walls tend to be really thick. If they were as thick as three bricks, then a trebuche would'vd demolished it quite it easily. Plus it won't have any abilitiy to you know, be able to walk on different levels on the wall such as the top. Also castles tend to have very less people in fact for just how good they were. Typically around 20 to less men. Alao you do forget that they didn't live in the castle walls itself, but probably a structure build on the inside where it had normal wall thicknesses, and that stone is a good thermal conductor. I'm guessing it'll be just like most homes that used earth, and it kept cool in the summer, warm in winter if you were willing to light a fire inside one.

Here's the thing, most of the nations in hre is really hard to find their name. But you can easily tell that they are like japan, but the landlords(landlord is not actually a correct word here, they are independent nations) are a bit more stronger. The number of nations in hre is a mystery, there are a lot of them. I cant give name due to that reason. (even when you search for each nations name, It'll be hard to find all of them. If you find a website that gives all of their names, I will be happy if you share it with me.) Well, the ones I'm talking about actually named as principalities. There are also free cities, a nation that only has one city. These nations are accepted as independent nations and most of them ruled with monarchy. The rest is about your perspective, to me a castle that is ruled by a king(If the ruler claims to be king) can be accepted as a kingdom.

Nice build, thanks for the vid! My explanation - hay bales are for beds. Not in Minecraft for sure, but IRL medieval jail beds probably would be made of straw or something, and straw would be refreshed every now and then (if you are in a nice jail). We don't have straw in Minecraft though, so here we go with wheat, for immersion. We don't know what kind of beds are in those cells (well we do know, but roleplaying and stuff). Arrow catapult is a great idea, if you want to organize something of a siege with other players or raid event, but don't want to rebuild all suroundings after TNT blasts.
@mikewhitaker2880
@mikewhitaker2880 3 жыл бұрын
actually the straw is used more for keeping the floors clean than for sleeping on, though we are talking the dungeons... think of how its used in barns.... and how they get mucked out... it would be the same for a prison cell...

I have only recently started building in Minecraft. But I saw this book a few years ago and was fascinated by it. So when I saw it again, I bought it. As a Minecraft newbie, it was gold dust. I built loads of the projects, adapting and mixing stuff up as I gained confidence. I have since seen many Minecraft building books, but still think this the best. Quality builds, clear instructions, loads of useful things that can be repurchased for other things.

5:05 That's something I noticed too, on a Castle you really wouldn't have gaps like that, there are some things that make sense, for example the High Elevation, on a Castle that is something you want to have, and when designed the right way, the only way for attackers to enter is through the Main Entrance, the most heavily fortified part of the Castle I have a bit of knowledge about castles from watching too many Shadiversity videos, there are some ways you could make a castle, even this one, look more authentic to real life castles such as making the Machiculations functional, or having the Merlons on the wall be Head Height For context, Machiculations are a design feature in a Castle, where you would place the Battlements a little further off of the wall, to do this you need Quarbels sticking out from the wall to support the Battlements from below, Quarbels would be most easily represented by placing Stairs sticking out of the Wall upside down, the reason why Castles had Machiculations was because beneath the Battlements there were gaps between the Quarbels, allowing an Archer to shoot down at Attackers closer to the wall, something which cannot be done with if the Battlements are placed straight up on the wall unless you build Wooden Hoardings Merlons are those things you see on the Battlements, they serve as cover for Archers on the wall, you would want them to be Head Height so that nobody can shoot up at you, at the same time, you want to be able to shoot down at them, which is why they have Gaps between them, and even Arrow Loops, small holes in the Merlon which you can shoot through, Arrow Loops are also seen on Towers and it seems that this Castle has functioning Arrows Loops within the Towers, at least at a glance
