I'm not trying to downplay his build but, realistically, castles were massive feats of engineering and earthwork. Many castles altered the terrain around them to better suit them. Moats, wooden castle walls, mottes, and retaining walls are all great examples of this.

To be fair, castles were actually intentionally designed to have confusing interiors for the uninitiated so that anyone trying to storm them would have a harder time.

Every castle was different, but there were some common techniques, like Two walls an inner and outer wall with gates that didn't align so they could shoot at intruders in case they broke trough the first one, another technique was spiraling stair to the right so defenders would have an advantage on the attackers (because they have more room to slash their swords). a gatehouse was really common with two gates and a "killbox" in the middle were they could trow stones and shoot arrows at the attackers with minimal risk. the keep had a removable stair at the entrance wich they could push away incase the attackers broke trough all the defenses. and for the last one... sometimes castles had secret exits hidden in the wall so they could launch a sneaky counteroffensive

This is definitely more fit for a count, and not a king. There's still some power projection over nearby villages, but the castle itself isn't very large or well-fortified. It's more similar to a chateau. It can defend itself against angry peasants, and has fancy fixtures, fit for a landlord.

@@deejeh9494 It's complicated. Also, I know. I am French. However, a Château is more luxurious, and focused on amenities and basic defense against annoyed peasants, not a well-organized army. I love your mindset of "it is what it is." The entire build was just a series of "it is what it is" and the finale to top off the cake was a big fat "it is what it is." I think a lot of people would benefit from having this mindset in general, especially when it comes to small annoyances that shouldn't be made to be bigger than they actually are.

A little tip for building roofs on top of randomly shaped buildings: if you think of the roof like you do with the rooms on the interior of a house, with different segments stacked together to make one shape. If you separate the roof into chunks while building, it can allow you to make a better adapted shape to fit it, and add some variety to top off the structures. Hope this helps, great videos btw!

That was a really good looking build. I know you literally just released another video just days ago that I'm about to watch as well, and others have pointed out, but some things to keep in mind when building castles (if you want them to be more historically accurate) The purpose of the castle is to protect the royal family, so I had to laugh to myself a little when you built the main living quarters for the king and queen out of the walls where a single attack could destroy the royal family while they sleep. Additionally, typically the only structural buildings along the outer wall were guard towers - you don't want anything important to be destroyed or broken into by digging into a single wall. As others have pointed out, this would likely end up being the castle of a lord rather than king, as it is small (for a king). Of course I understand it's just a game and this was simply a creative exercise but for anyone wanting to create more realistic castles those are a few things to keep in mind.

Diagonal roofs are my field of expertise. I developed a technique to make roofs extremely flat at any angle you wish for. And it only took me 2 roofs to learn how to do it but I've never seen anyone explain it anywhere. Its not always easy to setup. Where sometime you may need to build further than the planed roof to have your pattern. But once you have it it's dumb easy. As easy as making the straightest diagonal possible between 2 points that have one direction and height difference. And then copy pasting that line. And filling the holes plus using walls if your roof is very vertical to replace some block. (as slabs can easly be inserted into the creation of the pattern for later roofs. While steep roofs need walls but thoses are easier to place later.

Im pretty good at building but my builds always looks bad, and from watching you I've learned that its mostly because I didn't add enough randomness and texture, so I'm thankful for videos like these witch have helped me understand building in Minecraft :)

Do you still have the world? because if you do copy the world from seed and copy specifically the build files the chunks might have to be loaded before you transfer the files. There's plenty of ways to fix the problem you had. Including optimizing the world :)

the only way to make an organic cliff in MC: TNT. love the build! so nostalgic. You should so use physics mod, it would bring everything to life a bit.

subscribed in the first 2 seconds of the video. I loved the music and the cinematic shot. I could tell IMMEDIATELY what the vibe of this video would be, and that takes a lot of skill from the creator. You have a very distinct and almost therapeutic video style that I have been looking for! Excited to see more content from you!

I really like these kind of builds! It is meant to be a game, for fun not just to struggle making all “perfect”. Kudos to you good sir! Too bad for the sudden end…😅

this exact video is my favourite, the last one of the bridge was amazing, I'm 8 minutes in and loving this, I love watching people be creative slowly but surely and breaking and improving over and over because I love doing it too, keep it up! edit: this video went by so damn fast I LOVED it another edit: RIP Clarences Castle

First time viewer and I just wanted to say that I appreciate this. There's too much planned building out there. Not to say there's anything wrong with those builds but It's not just the build I'm truly interested in, its the process as well so thank you.
