Building a Modified Police Car Ep.3 - But is this a Real Police Car?

In today’s video, we show you the Police Mk3 RS after its amazing blue light install.
In a game-changing new series, the D&C Police engage with the car community by building this unique Focus RS project car to help educate UK road users on the benefits of doing car modifications correctly and safely and legally.
Fitting police lights otherwise referred to as blue lights in this video, really do set off the RS in such a way that it's now able to look more and more like a real police car as the episodes go on.

Would love to see a video of you guys explaining how you came to meet, how the idea came about (who's idea was it?) and the whole process you have gone through in terms of getting approval for the project, getting the sponsors to come on board etc. How hard was it to get approval to use Police livery, blue lights and sirens? If the project proves successful will the police consider developing some similar modified vehicles to Police car shows and raise awareness (I know this is the concept behind this project, I just wonder if the Police would consider taking it a step further with professionally modified cars for service work). Would certainly make an interesting video!

We have an ex police van the siren is still installed I'm guessing now it requires a controller not just the 12v supply like some of the other features that we've re-commissioned.

The “siren” is just a specialised audio set up. It’s made up of the siren speaker and an amplifier unit. Your van probably just has the speaker left in - get a cheap siren amplifier and you can probably get it working again.

So the first siren tone you heard is a wail - designed to project the sound forward over a long distance to give early warning. The others (yelp, two tones) are for junctions or in traffic. They bounce the sound around off walls/cars/etc so you’re very loud and noticeable. Two tones are also good for pedestrian areas as they’re slightly less harsh on the ears. Some cars also have a ‘phaser’ noise, which is very obnoxious for junctions, or people refusing to move 😂

Reds are illegal but in some cases you might get away on having reds if it’s flashing in conjunction with ambers, but red lights on its own is illegal 👍

Wrong. Rear reds are legal in any vehicle when stationary. Hence why modern emergency breaks flash red and rear reds on bicycles flash red. It is unwittingly only associated with emergency vehicles. However this is a misconception which I imagine the emergency services try and maintain to keep the distinctions between civilians/emergency workers.

Thats a nice focus actually. No im genuine. I would to see that in rear view mirror when i do get a drivers licence (i have age to get one, just not the money) Ps: i have question. Is legal to convert halogen and condescend light bulbs into led lights with the use of aftermarket lights? Its my dream to own a classic mini and to use it as my actual car. But in my nation (the netherlands) its not allowed dual to the fact that systems to convert halogen & condescend bulbs (aka headlights) to LED are not allowed bcs they dont have an E-mark. So i wonder if its anything different in the UK? Ohye how is it with envoirmental zones. Here they kinda strange. Bcs old diesels & and old mopeds arent allowed in them but a car from the 1950s is allowed bcs it doesnt exclude petrol.

You can have anything for show purposes technically as long as it only gets used off road. The issue starts when you turn the lights on while driving on the road

I understand you need to be seen but on the new led lights on a police vehicle I think it's a hazard when the roads are wet I'm a hgv driver and it's really bad glare.

Agreed, sometimes I cant see anything and need to slow down in adverse conditions because the lights are blinding. They have a night mode on the control panel but its not always used, you can also switch off the rear lights.

There is a low power mode on the lights control panel that can be used for low light conditions as yes, you are correct, they are very bright.
