What do you do if you buy a car that has illegal car modifications on it and you don't know about them?

I get this 100% but if you declare mods that you didn't know you had the insurance companies rip you off by charging 3x more than what you are already paying. And alot of people can't afford it and also over charge prices.

Maybe car insurances shouldnt be allowed to worm their way out of paying out over something that shouldnt void the insurance? Just a thought

They only get out of the claim if you agree to it. I'm pretty sure they still have to insure it, especially if the modification had nothing to do with the crash. Best to follow procedure and be honest though

@@333PublicTransit I get what you are saying but like I said, you declare modifications you didn't know then the premium goes up way too much for people to afford. So it's a grey area when it comes to this. If insurance companies didn't extort people then fine fair enough, declare mods, I have known people to pay about a grand a year for insurance, not realising they had an ecu remap because the car was second hand and only found out when they took their car to a garage after obviously insuring the vehicle, when they declared the remap to the insurance company, the company wanted an extra 900 or so from the person which then caused them to sell the vehicle as they couldn't afford it. They shouldnt of had to do that because of an insurance company extorting extra money which wasn't necessary.

Was told once by a insurance company that any thing added to your car once it's left the factory is classed as a modification even down to stickers,wind deflectors

People who have not worked in insurance don't realise these companies are literally a bunch of pirates. They use special terminology to gaslight you but its all a show. When in doubt, speak to someonr who is in the know before agreeing to anything with the insurance company. The insurance company simply exists to profit, not be your friend.

I belive I am correct when saying.. If it's been fitted by the car manufacturer before leaving the factory, then it's not a "mod". Modifications are any parts that alter the car from factory standard.

Its a shit show, my insurance got up by 3x just because I've changed my alloys to a different vag group alloys
