Hey Jay and Jen, I wouldn’t have thought of doing that ridge pole like that but it’s pretty genius how you did it. It would make it a bit easier if you got a couple of the slide clamps to help hold things. I use them a lot. Thanks much for the great video.

Not sure if you know this but before putting your lumber in the ground, you may want to start burning the part that goes into the ground to protect the lumber from rotting quicker and keep the termites and ants away. It's an ancient Japanese technique that will help your lumber last longer. I've been watching people do this here on KZbin and it does work. You don't have to burn it completely, just enough to scorch the wood all around the four corners. Just a thought for the next time.

Currently, the lintels hang on the side of the pillars. My experience says that you should saw out part of the pillars that the lintels can then lie in. Much like an "L". That way, the roof is supported by the pillars, which they don't get as you have done now. The load on the screws is transferred to the columns and the risk of the roof collapsing during a snowy winter is reduced.

Yes, we normally create a should like you mentioned, but since we used 4x4 posts and the building is pretty small I believe it will be fine.

I would suggest to cement the posts in the ground for your mud room. The sandy soil is not stable............

It is very stable, hard packed sand like we have holds strong. We did the same with the cabin and 3 years with no issues. Just sharing 😊
