Might be a good time to bend a piece of steel strap around the end with an eye welded to it (or drill a hole and run a steel eye bolt through it). It will tow much easier and not tear out your eye lag bolts. Through bolt the strap with carriage bolts (nut up) before building the house on it. Take care. Doug

I have such cabin fever but it has been warm and RAINY here in the mountains. We get more annual rainfall than the Pacific Northwest here in the Northwest corner of North Carolina. Several inches of rain just today with flash flooding all over. Can't haul a tractor out in this weather, it'll just sink and destroy the grass. My coop project is on hold until we get some good weather, as is my raised planter boxes. That caked looked delish! Blessings to all.

Al, on the wheels, I like the Ace Hardware pneumatic wheelbarrow wheels. Ace will tell you the req’d shaft diameter. It’s about 5/8 to 3/4. I’d make a full length axle from 2” steel pipe and weld the small stub axle on the ends using a flat plate. And then bolt the the 2” pipe underneath the hemlock runners. I’d use a cast half-round bracket for rigidity. Then you can slide your wheels off and on.

Nails - have an inclination to work themselves out until the get rusty and this ties them down. If you need some constructional strength, then note that the "work themselves out" inclination is activated under torsion, rattle or vibration (e.g. dragging the coop over a surface that is not absolutely flat and smooth.) If you do not want to do a lot of joinery, gluing or screwing? Then review the way you drive in the nails. 16:45 .. 19:00 - here all the nails are driven through the boards into the beams underneath at a NINETY degree angle to the board. Imagine, you take a FORTY FIVE degree angle and you have more resilience to the "work themselves out" inclination, which you can improve even more by alternating the angle of attack so the first nail goes in 45 degrees away from you and the second in the opposite direction. Decades from when you put it together when people want to take it apart, they may curse for this being a lot of work and they'll say somebody did a great job in putting this together in the first place.

The new chicken coop/brooder looks so big! Is it bigger than New York City? I heard you mention painting the beehives. There really isn’t any other structure on the Homestead that’s painted. Wouldn’t they look better just oiled like the rest of the structures? Probably sounds silly but your Homestead is definitely the nicest looking of all of them with every structure of the same material and everything so neat and tidy :-)

You put sunflower seeds and grain in their hay they will hunt for it and throw out the hay to get it. Build a 2 container feeder just like the 7 container one you built for the girls just outside their barn door before you built the mobile hay feeder. You could easily attach it to the current hay feeder the boys have. Place it on the side closest to the barn or directly on the barn would work as well. The girls hay feeder has that little area where the hay can catch and where you currently feed them their sunflower seeds and grain.

Make your-shelf a pass-through door for lumber, where you store the lumber outside of the barn. If I remember right, you left a space for a full door there. You could hang some plastic or rubber sheeting to cut out the wind and cold weather in side of the small door. Also why not make a brooder area there and add the chicken yard on to it.You could add a vent from the shop to heat the brooder area. Of cause this idea come's to late for you have already built the new coop.

It's going to be hard to beat the durability & movability you've had with New Yolk City. For Gina & Olivia I have a baking tip for you>Please don't tap your flour & dry goods down to level your cups out. When you do that you compact your flour & dry goods down, which means more flour, etc in your measuring cups. Use a flat edged knife to just scrape the excess flour etc off. I use to make the same mistake. Believe me it really makes a difference in the texture of cakes & breads from dense to light textures.
