The first half of the kzbin.infoUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

This was fun to watch and brought back a lot of memories of doing this same thing in a mid-60s ranch style house about 5 years ago. Same plaster coated drywall, same solid construction, and same lesson learned about knowing what's on the back of the wall you're demoing. We also put new hardwood oak floors down, and I dropped and replaced the entire ceiling due to a ton of cracks in the plaster from a radiant heating system that used very thin copper wires embedded in the plaster and connected to 220VAC thermostats. I never knew radiant ceiling heat was a thing until that job.

When they took up the floor I died a little inside; that seemed like a serviceable hard wood floor. was not sad to see the mismatched cabinets or old appliances go though. Both kitchens could've used more color imo; white and grey with minimalist aesthetics gets a little old.

I really felt sorry for you at the beginning of this video, admired your chutzpah at taking on this project, and marveled at your saintly disposition during the demolition. I genuinely would not be capable of any of this and am truly envious, but that last clip of the video showing the finished results brought out a spontaneous GASP from me! I agree totally. I would have only changed out the stove and microwave. This makes me sick, I've been watching renovation video's all day and this is the 2nd time someone tore up a perfectly good kitchen. The video I watched a couple of hours ago the guy tore it all out (including granite countertops and beautiful cabinets) and they were only a few years old....both of these kitchens are better than I have ever had and probably ever will be able to afford. Just trashing all of that makes me sick. I would have loved to have had that old sink, that's exactly what I want to get and install if I can ever get to that point in my remodel. But I agree with you AQ, the kitchen had charm (and that tile artpiece that he trashed on the wall was darling!)

Cindy Lou i agree. a lot of people these days tear up the character of the house and put in something bland like ikea cabinets. the modern houses these days lack uniqueness and personal style.
@PatriotAcresinTexas
@PatriotAcresinTexas 4 жыл бұрын
@@Meelameels I agree with the new houses lacking uniqueness and character. At work last night I was planning what I was going to do with a few small areas around doors outside my spare bathroom. I have a Dog that for some reason started scratching a hole in the gipsom board on the wall. I could easily cut a piece of wallboard to cover that area and call it done. However since it's just 8-10 inches wide, I have been researching the wainescoating style so I will be making my own bead board type wall cover... I LOVE the look of real wood and some of the detail I have seen in the tiny homes done by artisans. SO I will be getting wooden boards the same size as a yard stick, staining them and attaching them to the wall with a small gap in between each one. Then I will be adding small beads (that are on a string, that come on a roll) between the boards. After glueing that in I will stain it and clear coat it all together to seal it up. Then I'll top it off with a chair rail type molding. That will be the coolest thing I think. I also plan on using a large wooden circle that I got from a Friend that used to hold a glass table, and will be building a 1' thick wall diving the dining room area of my kitchen and will be placing glass blocks inside the wall (so you will see the light come thru, thru the wooden circle from the living room) and also I plan on using the 3' x 3' (huge) stained glass panel into a wall art type thing that also divides the sink area of my kitchen from the other side of the living room. I can guarantee that there's nothing like that out there in someone's home now. It will be unique and cool and I will be recycling items that were given to me to make my home an art piece in my opinion. Sure I could just leave it as it is and then it would look like any other older modular home out there but that's boring. When I start doing this I will put up some put up video's (but must get a videocam first). So if you want to see what I do, sub to my channel. I don't know when it will start but it will. :-) Stay safe and warm and Happy New Year!

Absolutely Savage about the previous owner’s tastes and choices. I love it, because I just started renovating a 1990’s house, and I’m facing many of the same issues. The previous owner spent a f-ing fortune on solid oak custom cabinets. I never thought the words “THERES TOO MANY CABINETS” would ever fly out of my mouth! But then they installed cheesy, cheap Corian counter tops. Go figure.
