Very cool project. I personally always like Claptrap's scrappy design. Not that the real-world build is simple, but I think part of the reason Claptrap is so charming in the games is that they didn't really overthink his design, and they let the voice actor really elevate the character. Similar in concept to Wheatley I guess now that I think about it. And GladOS too I suppose, considering that you don't even see her for the majority of the game(s).

You made a robot that was just a eye/head on a ceiling crane arm, and now your working on a robot on a wheel with arms so of course the next robot will have legs. Can i perhaps suggest one of the beetleworx from disney's epic mickey? They have unique designs but are obscure enough that no one has repilcated them in real life. There are four unique types, hoppers, spinners, tankers, and bashers. The first one is just imposable because it only has one leg and hops around on it.

Claptraps suspention system for his mono wheel does not act like what you would expect out of a generic suspection setup, When you do design this part/function. For it to be compact. It might be worth designing it to work almost like a scissor lift. Means less calculations needed for balancing sprung weight. Instead with the above you can make a kinematic model and just mix different positions to "animate" his suspention/movements.

I think the retractable wheel and suspension can be "easily" faked by a similar mechanism you have for the antenna. You do not retract or suspend the wheel but the body itself. For resting you simply lower the whole chassis on three linear guides until it touches the ground, the wheel itself, the base plate and all important electronics stay in place. The suspension can be simulated by moving the chassis up and down to a decaying waveform. I think three linear guides (rails or rods) + stepper motors (even one would be enough) coupled with belts to the chassis would to the trick.
