New series idea! Renovation shell challenge: You build one of these old homes as accurately as possible and leave it unfurnished. The challenge for us is the renovate and furnish the home without changing the exterior. We can demolish the interior walls and change the floor plans. It would be interesting to see everyone’s take on an old home renovation. 😊

I live in Syracuse. Some of the old houses here have great architecture and it is so sad to see them in such bad decline. You did a good job with this build. I love the look and craftsmanship of old houses. They are the main reason I want pocket doors in the sims: single and two-door styles. I would love a vintage build kit that has old timey styles of toilet, clawfoot tub/shower combo, lots of built-in cabinet/bookshelf options, and other small fixtures that scream old house. I know we have Vintage Glamour Stuff, but I'm thinking of a more basic stuff with some having small (not overt) nods to the luxury for those times. I grew up in a city with a lot of old apartments and houses, so I grew to appreciate the subtle glamour of old architecture.

It's a nice house. Having the too small bathrooms is pretty accurate for an old home. If the home was built before indoor plumbing they would've stuck them where ever they could. And I'd suspect the kitchen was in an extension, that is pretty accurate too. Don't know if your inspirational house is that old, but it would be in the story I'd tell about it. Thanks for sharing this.

This is a very cute old home. Love the colors you chose and the roof. I make replicas of Sears kit homes in my gallery for 5 years and I know the struggle of recreating them from illustration and floor plan in the catalog. I use the packs and debug items as I can to make them match and it does get frustrating at the time. 😉

Pro tip: You can use half walls for dormer windows like what's in this build. What you have to do is build a separate floating room close to the actual house - but not touching. Raise or lower it until it's as close to the height of the half walls as you can get it, then put a roof over it and slide the roof over the half wall dormer. It takes a bit of finagling to get it to work, and the room is probably not going to be useable, if you use a really short half wall height, but it's an option!

With outlets : they should create actual plugs that slot to certain devices such as microwaves, coffeemakers, tvs , lamps, stereos, etc. Like it would be a separate wire plug object that slots to those objects.

When they mentioned water damage I can see that from looking at the front stairs, they look like they are going to cave in. I also would have stayed with the green and gray Tudor wallpaper you started out with and put in a small pond or swing set or clothesline in the back.

Friendly reminder about old houses - the "bathroom" was usually a chamberpot! If they have indoor plumbing, they've already been upgraded which means space has been stolen from SOME room of the house. :) So you don't need to feel bad about having trouble finding room for them in the build - that's completely normal!
