Today we launch a "new" Project!
This will be my Rock crawling service truck! This Fall, I want to launch my new business and building out an offroad recovery truck is the first step. I've been sitting on this truck for way to long! Let's give it the life it deserves and make a one-of-a-kind truck that can help people who are stuck in the cascade mountains. This is also competing in the 2024 Onx build challenge! Use both! 100% flatbed, but incorporate lower body lines of the jeep bed under the flatbed and maybe front of bed 45* angle sections. Function of the flatbed and style of the original. Great channel!

This, or a low-profile sunken bed. (That's what I'm building for my Silverado. 7" high bedrails, bed as low as it can go. The wheel wells end at the top of the rails)

I had a 79 J10 and love the possibilities. The fenders have a great shape to enlarge and extend over dullies. Plus the square lines also lend themselves to adding drawers and whatnot out the side of the bed body.

I know a Guy. He installed a '67 J2000 body on a Dodge Cummins frame. One thing for you to consider is that to get the Jeep cab low on the frame he had to channel the rear portion of the cab floor to allow the Dodge frame rails to reside in the cab. Without doing so, the cab would be too high and look cheesy--as if the Jeep was just dropped on top of the Dodge. Also, you'll need to be creative on getting the front body mounts and radiator support setup. I also like your idea of building a Wrecker bed. Maybe use the Jeep bed sides and taper them down towards the rear as the Wreckers have their beds. Good luck and have FUN

Find a similar vintage stepside bed & graft on the fenders...then make a buck so you can easily replace them with fiberglass sides after they find rocks for you.

Use the original bed. Get a second one and use that as the extended bed up to the cab. Super simple to make a lid and store all the goodies. Add bed side doors for easy access to the extended bed. Make dully fenders part of your workbench like Trailmater. Been waiting for a couple years for this!!

Amazing project! The embossed tailgate from the Jeep would be awesome as the taillight panel on a flatbed. Especially if lower portion of the bedsides and flares are incorporated for the overall flow of body lines. Excited to see the end result!

I say j10 bed and like a mini sleeper or massive tool box. Everyone uses a flat bed, use that creativity that makes me love this channel. Fab up the bed and make it look like the J10 belongs on that frame. Love the channel and keep making awesome projects.

Custom flatbed but use the J10 bed sides for the sides of it. Cut them at the belt line and match that to the top of the flatbed

FLATBED! I was originally thinking either stick with the J series bed, or adapt an old military trailer for a bed, but after hearing what you want the truck to do, I think flatbed is going to be the most adaptable, and workable for that mission.

Back home on the farm, a dumping flatbed with removable sides is most versatile. No sides to haul hay, low sides to haul gravel, high sides to haul horses or firewood.

Use the jeep bed. BUT leave the space between the bed and cab just as it sits in the end of this video and turn that section into a small flatbed type platform you can mount a small crane (or whatever equipment you might need) onto. I would love to see the fender build and packaging ideas for turning the old bed into the toolboxes/storage that you will need.

FLATBED! For a service truck I think it would be most useful. Also, less worry about running a tree down the side of your Dooley fender. Because there’s no way you’re not going to get the pregnant bedside away from obstacles. This is going to be awesome!

For a service rig, flatbed 100%. Gives you more room for whatever utilities you need (fuel transfer tank?) and lets you haul more junk, load stuff with a forklift, etc. Plus I think it'd match the cab pretty well. The jeep bed would look awesome but I think you'd need to shorten the frame, big job and may make it a worse service truck to have significantly less space.

A service body with a mini crane might just be the peak of perfection. All the tools secured in locking service draws, on board air, secure place for the welder and tanks, you could probably even stuff a plasma/oxy acetylene setup in there, have a vice mounted on the back bumper, a place to put your hose reels out of the sun and weather. It could really be top notch, put some rock sliders and a XO cage around the service bed and it’ll be safe out there on the trails.
