Nice! I have a carport I been thinking about doing this to as well as the adjacent porch. I was looking for ideas on youtube and yours popped up. Glad I found your channel. I agree with your idea to tie into outside light circuit, seems it would be easiest route. I look forward to part 2. Happy 4rth of July weekend!

Thank you!! Yea I’m in the middle of figuring out the power situation now lol. It’s coming together but the weather slowed me down little. But overall it wasn’t too bad to enclose as long as you have a fairly level floor to build on lol.

Thanks! Sorry! I was waiting for help from someone to help hold them up but I ended up getting impatient and just put them up myself since I really wanted to see of my framing worked out. The doors were actually pretty easy to install though. I needed to use shims in a few spots but overall as long as the opening is the right size and fairly square, it’s really easy.

Thank you!!! It actually was fairly easy. Hardest part was deciding on how I wanted to frame it up and calculating that there might be a slight dip in your slab for drainage. But the actual screening system was easy to do and I got it all from Lowe’s. I thought the screen was going to be the hardest part but that went smoothly. Overall it’s definitely a doable project that might take a couple weekends depending on how much extra stuff you put on it

I’m getting outrageous bids to convert my screen porch to a 3 season room. At 67, 4’11” Single woman, going to try & figure this out myself. Average quote has been $18k for a 10’ x 30’ porch….house only 8 years old. So, in great shape. These contractors are insane !! Only 2 walls bc was an open porch I had screened in when I brought house in December of 2015. Unfortunately, cannot depend on Relatives nearby. I moved here from Atlanta….big mistake. Noblesville, IN. Just awful. Love your videos….very helpful. I want to add siding for now.

Thank you soo much for watching! Yea I heard on general pricing has gotten a little crazy. My mother in law was quoted about 15k to fully enclose hers and it’s about your size here in ATl. I think the most expensive part was the windows since there were going to have to be custom made

@@LetsDoThisDIY I lived in Suwanee & added a beautiful 20 x 20 room, vaulted, cedar walls, gable roof, 2 trex decks skylights & 2 ceiling fans, etc., in 2009. I think I paid in total about $15k. Brought that house in ‘97, $225k. It’s now valued close to 700k. Makes me sick to my stomach. First, it would be paid off & I desperately miss Atlanta. I lived there for 35 years. Big mistake to return here for retirement. But, have to take these lemons & make the best of it. I brought a RV & come down almost every year to hang out with Friends & relax by a lake. Project starting Friday. I think it’s all going to work out. Fingers crossed & Prayers going up.

Question. Anything special when framing a 2x4 along the siding part of house? Can you just drill right into siding? Do you look for studs under siding? Looking for some advice on this.
@LetsDoThisDIY
@LetsDoThisDIY 2 ай бұрын
Hey!! No need to find anything special when putting the 2x4s into the siding since the walls are technically not structural. The siding also has a OSB boards behind it so it won’t just be attached to the siding. It will end up attaching to a the boards behind it. You are just looking to add enough anchor points so that it’s a stable wall. You will still have 3 other anchor Points with the floor, ceiling and other all. I would just be mindful of where you potentially might have power or water lines. I used 3 inch screws to help make sure I didn’t go too far into the wall and puncture anything.

Nice video. Thank you gor sharing. How did you attach the 2x4 to the siding? Can you just use tapcon screws straight into the siding?
@LetsDoThisDIY
@LetsDoThisDIY Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! For attaching to the siding I used 3 in long exterior screws. It made it easier to drill a small pilot hole first.
@LetsDoThisDIY

When you attached the 2x4s to the siding, did it leave gaps since the siding is stepped, and did you fill the gaps with anything?
@LetsDoThisDIY
@LetsDoThisDIY 3 ай бұрын
@@suepfister4593 I filled the gaps with Alex Painter Caulk. I did both inside and outside.

I thought I posted a previous comment but I guess not. This is just a suggestion. I think you should replace the screens with picture windows! I think the screen cheapens the look a little bit. I think the windows will elevate it and it will match the esthetic of your house. Furthermore it will be a better view to the pool. Just a suggestion otherwise it looks amazing!!!!

Thanks! Yea I was on the fence about putting actual windows in. I did contact a local company during the process and they said they can def make windows to fit my openings. Im just concerned about how much sun it will get and and creating a green house effect that also impacts the inside of the house since I won’t have a duct for central air. I also though about adding a mini split system but I’m still on the fence. But trust me I have thought about it lol
@normiepierre-louis561
@normiepierre-louis561 Жыл бұрын
I see what your saying! Ifyou installed the proper windows it won’t effect it at all! With the windows I think It will look more like a sunroom room than a green house even though both have similar look! I apologize for my choice of word “cheapens” I just think you have a beautiful home the screen just the doesn’t match the esthetic of it that’s all! But Overall I think it looks amazing! The attention to details 👌
