So much work getting the mortar covered rocks cleaned up. Thankfully you just need the fronts clean!

I must be getting used to your quality control Josh - even to my untrained eye I can see what you mean about 'mostly rubble' and 'a nice face'. Suffocated by cement - simple phrase but speaks volumes! Ho-hum, it can't always be brilliant eh?

Good morning, I have a very important question. I can't sleep without an answer. In England and Scotland, you have very old stone buildings, which are 100-150 years old. How were these buildings insulated/insulated? After all, the British Isles have a climate of 0-10*C, winter, snow...
@J.HarveyStonework15 күн бұрын
They started to do so in 19th century but before that I suppose it was just very very thick walls with a fire going and the window open 🤣

I'm enjoying your videos as I have a few stone walls to repair / rebuild plus an old slightly derelict outbuilding and all the stone for these is pretty rough / poor too :) You must have used a lot of lime with so much mortar going in there - can you remember roughly how many bags for that section of wall?
@J.HarveyStonework2 ай бұрын
Thank you very much for watching. Sounds like you got a lovely project on your hands. Ooooo I think it was around 10 bags. Sorry it was a long time ago!

Can you build a house using this technique?
@J.HarveyStonework11 ай бұрын
Of course, probably best As cladding. Or thicker using an appropriate lime 👍

I have a limestone wall enclosing a victorian water tank with a 2 meter gap where it's collapsed. What mortar mix would you recommend?
@J.HarveyStonework Жыл бұрын
All depends on the style of walling & also if mortared, what type of mortar has been used on the rest of the wall. Find out possible reasons why the section has collapsed. A lime mix should always be used on stonework, but once again depends on budget, scenario etc.
