Oh Darrell one more thing, this is gonna sound crazy, but it works awesome... For shielding under the pickguard, get a glue stick, we have UHU here, you probably have it there also, spread a thin coat all over under the scratch plate, and then just one smooth layer of regular aluminum foil. I know it might sound cheesy, but it works awesome. Dead quiet. Shielding doesnt have to be thick, it only has to be metallic and have complete coverage. Then use an X-acto knife and cut off the excess around the edges and inside the pup holes. Saves a ton of money over time, and that foil ain't ever coming off!! Bob in Germany

Regarding the contoured heel, I read somewhere that with the neck plate mounted at an angle and the screws going straight down that the heads of the screws won't sit flush with the neck plate, and therefore dig into your hand. I don't see any indentation in the neck plates warmoth sells so I could see this being an issue. It would be cool if you could adress this in the next video.

Darrell, this is exactly why I subscribe to your videos. I love your DIY mentality that totally parallels my own. What I love about Parts-Casters is that A) you can build whatever is in your head, and B) If it didn't turn out like you'd hoped you can just change it. All of my electrics are partscasters or parts-upgrade guitars. It makes them unique, and makes them mine!

Kyle Snyder - the necks feel amazing, if that's all you can afford to buy. Plus in unfinished roasted maple they are cheaper than a Standard neck with nitro lacquer, because applying a finish takes time and work.

Wow! I started watching the build vid and guessed that I'd missed something. Not as easy as it should be to find this one. This is one of the most beautiful and classy guitars I have ever seen. It's rare that I covet something, but this one is irresistible. I don't even care what wooden pickups sound like, they are so cool... Only thing I'd change is the humbucker. A wooden P90 instead. Then you've got Ry Cooder, Bop Till You Drop era. I am so jealous...

I have a knotty pine telecaster that I built with a Warmoth stainless steel fret roasted maple boat neck. Nice neck and it has become my number one. Really a resonant solid body. I found the stainless steel frets to be really scratchy straight from the factory. I also found 5 or so out of level. So, I leveled the frets, re-crowned with a diamond crowning tool and then had to polish the heck out of them with varying grits of sandpaper to get them to not be scratchy. You may find the same thing. I like the stainless frets, but be prepared to work yourself into a sweat with lots of elbow grease getting them smooth enough to not be scratchy against the strings. I think on my next build, I will use stainless frets again, but not 100% decided.
@DarrellBraunGuitar6 жыл бұрын
Good to know! I was just assuming it would be silky smooth. Thanks for the heads-up :)

That guitar is going to come out awesome. It looks like you have everything thought out before starting..... but you've been doing this for a while. Most of the people I see have no clue. I built a tele-ish guitar with a Gibson bridge, Bigsby, some PAFs, and a 24.75 scale neck. Body was my creation, but I ordered a neck for that build. You can have whatever you want, just may have to build it yourself though.

must say stainless steel frets rock. i love them because they last longer. they don't really effect tone of instrument at all. another great build.
@marcuspayne24266 жыл бұрын
The darker knobs take over the line from the edge of the burst where it is covered by the pickguard. I think perfection would be 3 knobs of different shades, what you have at the "bridge/middle tone" position, matching the pickups in the "volume position" and split the difference in the middle, so you get a gradient from the edge of the burst to the pickups. Would be hard to find, though.
