Its like building a giant jigsaw puzzle. That sun shade adds some real nice architecture to the side of the cabin. Nice job. Stay cool, the weather is changing fast. I left my window open last night, it's only 50° out this morning. Hiding under my blanket watching your video. Still this is my favorite time of year though.

This cabin is going to beautiful ❤. I have a small cabin on the border in northern New York, been in for 5 years and I have been dreaming about removing the original aluminum siding and doing the as you have done...Seeing everything you're doing gives me a little hope for my place...and to be honest it takes my pulse from a dull thud to almost a full on pitter-patter. Not a "pitter-patter let's get at'er" but if you were to see me, you'd be hard pressed not to notice the obvious hitch in my giddy up. Well done Sir.

Congrats on your cabin in northern New York. I bet it will look fantastic with a natural siding. As convenient as aluminum and vinyl are, they just don't look quite as nice as real wood!

Omg it’s gorgeous! Not too busy whatsoever and yes you nailed every project I’ve seen so far! The thing is anyone can buy prefab crap and instead you’re making wood into outdoor furniture for your house that also has great purpose like the fact that it dresses up your windows and yet you also will be storing your panels and getting nothing but positive benefits from it! It’s so refreshing to see personal touches like this and knowing you didn’t buy cardboard imitations that are merely installed for looks, not that the prefab stuff lasts anyways! Your grandchildren will always cherish memories made there, or at least you and your wife will be rocking on patio chairs as a sweet old couple

The right tools for the job always make the difference. That old hammer needs an adjustment. Imagine dropping you at the barbershop. You were just there. My garage has poplar siding on two sides. It was built in 1969 and the wood is just fantastic. I wish the whole garage was built out of it. That awning looks great. Really going to make a difference in the summer. Enjoyed the show today. Take care and be safe. Vaughn

Now I'm onto you like insulfoam! I'm going to use post and beam in my rehab and plan to do an entry overhang and interior 45 degree corner bracing. As far as negative comment I'll tell ya what I told my wife 35yrs ago when we built our family timber frame after long days on the job...by this time next year you won't even remember days like today with your feet up on the coffee table watching it snow and blow. You are kicking butt and helping a lot of other folks become inspired and let's all get the move on !

I'm happy that you're happy. The window/shade awning looks marvelous. It looks HEAVY! I was surprised to see you carrying out of the cabin by yourself and then haul it up the ladder by yourself, especially after you said those roof rafters were too heavy for you alone to lift. But, you got'er done! That's going to be one unique looking cabin in the woods up the mountain. As far as the magic hammer is concerned, you have to be very specific. You said "take me to the shop." It did; just not the shop you had in mind. Haha. That's magic for ya. Your shop work was superb - all without a blueprint (or was that off-screen?). Be well and take care. Looking forward to the next video.

The lower part of the tyvek is getting sun beat. UV destroys it pretty fast. Staple on some extra temporarily on the lower section till you can get to it and finish the lower. Found this out the hard way on one of my projects. Sun destroyed it after 6 months of exposure and had to remove and reinstall new. My fault for not protecting it.

Awning looks awesome. How methodical you are while cutting and assembling your projects. And yes, you said, "I think I nailed it", when you were observing the final job. I agree, you did "nail" it....no pun intended! Lol But one thing I have to say...I was holding my breath while you were carrying the awning frame up that very looking unstable extension ladder. 😬 You were scaring me! Did you say you had scaffolding? I would breathe easier if you got some. Rather than sit in front of a box fan, you should try a ceiling fan. I have had the a/c off and got warm and put the ceiling fan on high. Then later, I felt chilly and turned it on low. Get that cabin done and build 3 more and then rent them out. That's a huge business for people wanting to get away from the city.

Where is your inspiration? Who taught you, or are you self taught? I mean the quality and attention to detail is remarkable. Great build! Man, I sure need tools! A 200 year old pecan tree was cut down in our area last week. It was so painful to see the tree laying down sliced up. No permit either. Instead of hassling the guys, which was my first true tree hugging reaction, I asked them for the wood. Can't even move a partial slice. I'll figure something out. Thanks for the video. 😎

Thanks RVR, I am kinda self taught, but I grew up watching my Dad do everything. I didn't really learn the skills, but I followed him around watching him to woodwork, electrical and everything in between. Later on when I grew up, I had the sense that I could figure the stuff out because my Dad just did it like it was nothing. Mostly I like to learn from books. I find the in depth detail and explanations that have gone through and editing process to be the most helpful for learning.

@@50Acres theres something about that midwest work and learning ethics that steered many of us to learn and do that same very way. I noticed in the description that the barber shop is in Dayton Ohio. I grew up less than an hour kinda northwest of there in a small farming town and I learned everything I know the exact same way and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I'm older than you but I'm still learning g that way to this day. Is the cabin in that vicinity or did you cross one of the few state lines to get to the cabin? Your doing an outstanding job brother! Keep it up but be safe also. An accident on a job like yours ended my career and has left me with 20 years of suffering

Sorry to hear about your accident Don, the cabin is a moderate drive from Dayton, I just tell people that it is located within the Ohio River Valley Region.

Nice build. Nice attention to detail. Thank you for controlling the volume of your power tools. Many channels do not do this and if like me viewers wear headphones the change in sound levels can be jarring to say the least. Since you are fairly far a long in your build this suggestion may not work for you but might be useful to others who are contemplating doing something like this. Invest in a few scaffold frames, and some aluminum walk boards. Being able to walk 7 feet across a wall at one time saves a lot of climbing up and down. I have enough frames to scaffold the various parts of my house in the event I need to do repairs or re stain the logs.

Shawn R I’m glad the volume made a difference I took the sound level of each nail gun shot down to 15% to make it more bearable. I have a walkboard and ladder jacks in the cabin, I just need to bring down another longer ladder.
