The fantasy of every man to build a log cabin at a secluded forest by himself.

Who else is watching this with no intention whatsoever of building one? I’m a 30 yr old mom of 2 who lives very comfortably in the suburbs and I don’t come from a family of hunters or anything, I just like watching these videos. 😂

Needs more views! Simple yet effective! A few tools, a couple of weeks, a bit of know-how... I'm curious how long it stands (might be decades!)

Thank you for answering so many questions. Modern (wo)man has a lot to learn from our past. Some things I can figure out, but some I couldn’t. Interesting stuff

Looks REALLY small inside. Would love to you see you build a larger version of this for 2 or 3 people to sleep in :).

Great video! Have you seen video by "Advoko MAKES" on him making a cabin in the woods? It's titled something like "Off Grid Log Cabin Built by One Man". I'd love to know your thoughts on the differences in approaches. They're subtle but stuff like flatting the top of the last wall log before putting the next on it or putting the moss between logs prior to stacking the next on top.

Is the intention to cover the house in moss starting with mossy cracks? Will it eat away the wood?

No, there are cabins built this way that are 100 years old and still strong.

And women say a man's toxic trait is thinking he can do things he can't. Now we just need to see a guy beat a bear in a fight.

Why did you char instead of just paint the spruce logs with used recovered motor oil for your sil logs? My Kenai Peninsula home was built when this property was homesteaded under the original homestead act in 1970. The house sits on the original foundation logs buried vertical, surviving all those earthquakes over the years--they were all cured spruce dipped in oil before burying.

It’s just what Dean Osmar taught me. Sounds like you probably know him.

@Benjamin.stevens I learned to build log homes from Skip Ellsworth, who sadly passed quite a few years now. If you remember that show NORTHERN EXPOSURE, those were his loghomes the astronaut and mayor character lived in. Skip preferred the butt and pass method. But, for a trapper cabin up here, the saddle notch you built will hold you for a few years...Will you bring in power off that junction box I see on the road at the end of your driveway?

@Benjamin.stevens never met Dean. Probably should. We're the same age and only 30 miles away from each other. He's where I hunt brown bear to help the moose population. Not like we don't have enough brownies around my home, too, lol.

No, this is just practice. I’d like to buy property either across the inlet or one of the inholdings on the refuge. It’s a long term goal to live remote and trap the winters.

@@Benjamin.stevens Where did you got that kind of knowledge? My dad was a carpenter who build many houses and log cabins through out his career. Including our family vacation cabin and he never burned logs for rot prevention.

Nice cabin, but please use safety equipment when using power tools by yourself. Is it your own land where you film all the time or your parents? Couldn't the roof been waterproofed without plastic, it's a pity in the wild. What about making overlapping wood shingles?
@Benjamin.stevens3 ай бұрын
It’s my land, I saved up and bought it. Plastic sheeting is pretty standard packable roofing material. Dick preneke used “tar paper” before that they used tin. Maybe you can do it with wood but this is definitely more resilient.

Very nice 👍 I would live to see a similar build without modern materials like the tarp and nails ans screws (because why not use industrial insulation boards and metal profiles) Waitinf in rhe next hut 🛖
