That's a nice Shop you've got there! I did something similar but I kept the Original ECM connector intact and merely spliced into the wires themselves back about 12 Inches approx from the ECM. Sorta like a breakout box would be and then simply attached those wires to the new connectors. Turned out pretty clean and I still have the option of running the stock ECM

Thanks! Interesting way of doing it. Reminds me of a “piggy back” like an apexi safc back in the day.

Thanks for the video! Very helpful dude! Just wondering is there any more info for adding the resistors? Cheers! 🇦🇺
@SmithsEuro Жыл бұрын
Resistors are based on your specific crank sensor I believe i had a 10k in the end i was only able to rev to 7800 with that The higher resistor should allow you to rev higher. Go with a 12k if you need more, and add 1k to it if needed. The board comes with a 25k but I figured that was too much and i dont know the ramifications of using that high of resistance

Standalone is nice… what is the benefit though with all the tuning options you have for the stock ECUs?
@SmithsEuro2 жыл бұрын
Adjustability for any setup you choose. Not stuck in the confines of a chip tune. If tomorrow i put a turbo kit in it, all id do is change some settings/numbers in the software. No paying extra for someones outdated chiptune that you have to adapt your setup to.

Great video , I've been looking for a vr6 plug and play DIY video. Thanks so much. What sized wire did you use , did you use shielded wire for knock sensors etc ?
@SmithsEuro2 жыл бұрын
This is made from the microsquirt flying lead harness. It has 2 shielded sets of wires I only used 1 for the crank sensor. Microsquirt is pretty basic, doesn’t allow for fully sequential so no need for cam sensor anymore. I will be going into a more in depth harness when i do my rabbit 12v vrt or my mk2 3.6 racecar with the fueltech 550 that allows for every sensor to be used

Awesome video, love the content!! Will this also apply to a mk4 afp vr6?
@SmithsEuro Жыл бұрын
This is made for the mk3 b3/b4 passat and corrado harness The mk4 harness is wired much differently and has drive by wire which microsquirt cant control. You would have to convert to a cable throttle and find the mk4 wires on your own to splice into. But theoretically it can work.

Do you by any chance have a pinout for the 42 pin OBD1 VR6 Engine connector?

No best to grab a bentley manual and go through it, or look through all the old forums for them.

You mentioned the idle control being an issue. I'm looking at the OBD2 throttle body wiring and see it just has a 12v motor for idle control, what'd you end up doing?
@SmithsEuro2 жыл бұрын
The motor is not a motor in idle sense. The oem motor only moves the tb about 5% I tried like hell to get it to work. No one has, not even the most reputable tuners. Best thing to do is add a throttle adjustment screw to the obd2 and forget it. That’s what I ended up doing and have had 0 issues sense. Ill be doing a start up file configuration video and show how to add the throttle adjustment screw

Really looking forward to the next videos regarding this topic, I'm about to buy a microsquirt and make an adapter harness to my obd1 corrado vr, just to get my feet wet with standalone.
@SmithsEuro2 жыл бұрын
I have a video coming out on installing it in the car along with creating a startup file. But having issues making it look good enough on camera. The obd1 stuff is a little different I assume you have a distributor. “If you have 1.5 you’ll have a coilpack like obd2 cars which would be very similar to this setup”
@brandonb29852 жыл бұрын
@@SmithsEuro my corrado is a late 93, early coilpack, so it will be similar to the newer 12v cars. I'm moderately experienced with wiring, as I've swapped an mk4 afp 12v into my mk2 using all mk4 management, and I've recently made another mk4 adapter harness for a 3.2 to replace the 12v, much like your mk3 wiring you did with the 1.8t. With standalone the main thing I'm trying to research is resistance ranges, and pulse information using all factory sensors, with the exception of the map sensor. As well as fueling and ignition timing for first start.
@SmithsEuro2 жыл бұрын
@@brandonb2985 the micro in limited but the settings youll be able to apply to most other units if you go with something else. trigger wheel only 60-2 80 degree offset (check with light after running) 10k shunt between the trigger +- pretty much all factory sensors will be close if not dead on tps has to be adjusted i think its inverted iat is close enough to leave injectors should come with specs if using oem 205cc and .80ms dead times to start adjust accordingly cam sensor not used,knocks not used

Cheapest/best ecu seems to be the micro. I traded an intake for it a few years ago. I planned to leave it a little rich. I am all motor for now. I will be 12.5 to 12.8 Most hondas are making all motor power 13.2-13.5. I have the fueltech 550 for my mk1 And mk2 to better control everything, and add in more tech/safety at the same time.

I am running mine now while building the 3.6 jetta coupe. I was close to a 13 last year with slicks. I think the micro will get me there. Not stripping the golf due to other plans with it. Want to get mid 13 on full weight. Good to see you’re out there keeping the hondas honest lol. Youll get the 13’s. Idk how a vr will take nitrous, I haven’t seen any around here try.
