We had vents around our cabin in Nebraska. We used a recessed style and would block them closed during the winter when there is not much of a mold or mildew issue, and unblock them in the warmer months. Cabin was built in the early 60's and never had an issue! Still stands today!

Skirting looks like it'll make a huge difference bud good idea! Hot goes to cold, so that'll definitely save you some firewood and keep heat from getting sucked down through the floors. Might be able to use those old pads for an outdoor fireplace or smoke house, or maybe to put under the woodstove at your steel frame cabin build 👍

Awesome job on the insulation and skirting! It'll definitely be a big help in the temperature management of the cabin. They make thermavents for crawlspaces. Vents that open and close to allow stricter air movement. Great job! Love what ya'll are doing ❤️

I’ve been waiting to see the skirting. I had also watched Boss of the Swamp and like the way he did it. I was thinking an inexpensive way of monitoring the temp down there could be using the little Govee Bluetooth temperature sensor displays from Amazon. You could connect whenever you like from your phone app via Bluetooth. I’d probably make it so the battery just had a length of red and black wire clipped to the terminals and then drill a small hole for the wire to come up through the floor. Then just connect it to a few AAA batteries above the floor behind some night stand or some other piece of furniture. You could check it whenever the temp drops to see what it’s measuring down there without much effort. Maybe even a trap door in the floor of the utility room would be worthwhile to get under there easier in the dead of winter if needed.
@billguyer52112 сағат бұрын
Hello Kyle, cabin looks great, maybe try a small de-humidifier under cabin, I think that too will be awesome.
@samhill3496Сағат бұрын
Good vid. You good put a floor vent on the opposite end of the house from the stove and another near the stove so it could draw warm air thru the crawl space and back to the stove. You can regulate it. All good from east Kentucky USA Take care. The white stuff is coming soon enough.
@noyopacific2 сағат бұрын
Thanks for the video Kyle ! I only go to my MN cabin (near Ely) for a couple weeks in the winter to ice fish. The walls and ceiling are insulated. The floor isn't insulated but I skirted it with salvaged metal roofing. I've wanted to put Reflectix under the skirt but considering the limited amount of time I'm there, the floor isn't cold enough to go to the trouble of adding insulation, even at -20ºF.
@budc865Сағат бұрын

you should put dampening vents below or near your woodstoves for air circulation under the cabin to help keep it dry under there.

I notice you have your vehicle almost right up to the cabin. Suggest you add a few truck loads of gravel and make a decent driveway to the cabin. Mama is going to have a hard time walking along a muddy, slippery path, either pregnant or carrying a newborn, from the parking area any distances from the cabin.

The foam may help keep frost from forming . Maine cabin masters actually bury the foam under the pads they set the cabin on. I dug around the skirt area and attached 1/4” hard cloth about 9” down and 90 degrees out about 6” , to keep garments from digging down and underneath. Enjoy watching, see ya soon!

Turkey love that foam board too. My buddy's house in the U.P. had foam around the entire foundation. The turkeys ate one whole side of the house in 2 years. I mean every square inch.

Wow! Wonder why?
@bubcat542 сағат бұрын
@@Fuzzyedgz They eat gravel to help pulverize their food in their stomach(s). Maybe they get some digestive help from chunks of it. Or, it's just fun and easy to peck and is tasteless but filling.
