Well I lived in an RV for 2 years. Spending winter in one is one step up from tent living. I hated it. Most people don't realize the walls on RV's are about 1 1/2 inches thick. Then the windows lose heat as well. You go thru propane like crazy. You must put some kind of skirting on the bottom part. A wood stove in an outside addition is going to be a game changer. But you'll probably have to leave a window or two open a bit, cuz it will get very warm in there. If I could have afforded it, I would have built an entire shed around it. RV's are not meant to be lived in 24/7, but the economy has caused many lower income and senior citizens to do so.
@exploringmybackyardАй бұрын
I agree 100% the walls are pretty thin although this is a Fourseason unit the windows are double painted and the walls are 3 inches with foam insulation. It will help a little bit but the woodstove on the room is what’s going to keep me warm this winter, I’m going to leave a link here for you. Check out this video and you can see the skirting that I have done. Thanks for stopping in greatly appreciate it.kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJjdhYBsaKp1js0si=zw6SJwxte6wm11Fs

Instead of going through all this trouble build a carport to park your RV under. Then you can enclose it. You could put a wood burning stove in there and it gives you 2 layers of warmth for the winter. When you no longer need the RV you can then use it as a carport, a work shop, or recycle the materials for something else.

I full timed in a camper in Maine for a few years. I ended up installing a cylinder stove inside the camper with the stovepipe out through the skyilght hole. I would advise building a regular pitched roof over the whole camper and then adding walls. This will extend the life of the camper for many years. Snow load will eventually destroy your roof if you dont. Another idea would be to dig a deep trench under the camper and install the woodstove under the camper so heat can naturally rise. For my last winter of Maine camper living I moved my camper into an old airplane hanger where it was sheltered enough to be heated by one of those small electric heaters.
@exploringmybackyardАй бұрын
@@michaelbeggs2013 I agree a complete shelter over the whole unit would be ideal. This is going to be for one winter and then the spring. I’m going to start building my cabin. Great job on the quick build. I learned a lesson about power nailers a long time ago, and that is never hold the trigger and use the safety to shoot the nail. I used to do that until I was installing fascia boards on a house and the nailer bounced and put a nail through my hand into the fascia board and the rafter tail. I was stuck standing on the scaffolding until my boss got back from lunch and was able to cut the nail by putting a jigsaw blade between my hand and the fascia and cutting the nail. I still had to go to the ER to get the nail head dug out of the back of my hand. That was a bad day indeed.

@exploringmybackyard I have a similar setup with camper and addition. I found the best way i could think of sealing between the addition and camper connecting doorways was to cut 14-16" strips of tarp lengthwise and staple one side flush with the inside edge of the addition doorway then roll the tarp inbetween the addition and camper for whole doorway. Leaving a decent bit extra towards camper door temporarily tape it in place so it doesn't move then fill it with big gap filler canned foam. Molds to your camper, fills gap and seals out the weather with no risk of getting on your camper and easily removable with no damage. Cut the extra and your done! Has worked great for me. Hope it helps!

11:53 If I may and make a suggestion on how to seal the anti chamber (ahum) to the RV: If you make a bit of a spacer (say 4 inches) and attach an two inner tubes of a car to it (possibly caulking or contact cement) and place the spacer in between the wood of the anti chamber and the rv. Then inflate the inner tube to seal to the RV... Obviously you need to cut the inner tube and glue the ends shut. The curvature of the inner tube may be in the way of things but maybe you can get rubber sheet and fashion your own tube and put in the shreader valve of and old inner tube to inflate the seal... Or go extremely simple and use these pool noodles and a larger spacer...

If I may suggest a treatment for your nailed fingers. Make some hot water (as hot as you can handle on your hands and set up a bowl which you can put the effected hand comfortably for half an hour or more. Best to have some insulation going as well, something like a couple of towels on top or the like. The hot water needs some washing soda dissolved. The washing soda softens the skin and tissues and cleans out any debris, potential infections starting and it raises the ph of the damaged tissue slightly too which aids in healing... If you can handle it you can massage the effected area a bit to allow the soda solution somewhat into the wound. Treating the 3 fingers with a daily 30-45 minute bath of washing soda keeps the external part of the wounds soft and clean so (in case an internal infection thinks about starting) has a chance to get out through the entry and exit wounds... In any case please consult with your local (bush) doctor.... You may need a tetanus shot if your most recent tetanus shot is older then 10 years... I can not say if it is wise to use a syringe to squirt some of the solution through the nail sized/shaped wounds but if you can boil the solution and let it cool to a safe temp. before use you should be fine preventing infections... Generally washing soda (not baking soda - which is close but not the same) is a very good wound disinfectant and cleaner. Safe to use and non toxic...

@@Sandramce60 Hi Sandra that’s cool. You’re from New Brunswick. I grew up in Nova Scotia. When I purchased the property in June, the plan was to have the cabin built and ready for winter. Water tight?? When you stand inside one can see daylight thru the walls which means wind and water. Wondering why you insist on running a commercial generator on your video?? Does the noise keep you company?? It has a lot of room I must admit..... looks like it will make a great homeless camp on the side of the freeway next season when you bail and leave it behind.
@exploringmybackyardАй бұрын
yes, the warp you see on the wall at the end of the video makes it watertight the same as the roof. Great question about the generator. I hate the damn thing and I hate the noise as well. We ran a cord further away, but the compressor kept blowing the breaker so unfortunately, I had to choice, but to listen to it. As far as leaving it behind for a homeless and cabin, I don’t think so. I will repurpose all the materials and maybe even turn it into a Room where I start all my plants for the garden I appreciate you stopping in. Thanks for watching.
