Meat Sweats... BTW - a Biscuit Joiner makes perfect slots to use hidden fasteners on your boards with no grooves... You may have to adjust the height, but it gives a nice clean look and a lot less face screws.

For the stair treads, you can always do what I did. Buy some pre-made risers. When you realize that they are too short, you can then use them as templates when you have to make your own anyway...

Out of all the things I've built, the most nerve wracking was a set of stairs that was a surprise for my parents. Their back stairs were in rough shape. But.. because it was a surprise, I couldn't build it on site. So I had to sneak over when they were gone, get measurements, build the stairs at my house and trailer it over. That moment when I put them in place and everything fit correctly I felt like I had held my breath the entire build and finally got to exhale 🤣

When the dishonest developers come in a hundred years to tear down your home for cheap housing, or golf course, the contractor is gonna be like, "Yeah, we're gonna take down the house today, then the rest of the week is blocked off to take down the deck."
