That furniture glide leveling system is genius. I’m going to use the same system for an extension wing in my miter saw, and the out feed on my table saw!

Great video, Tommy! It's rare to see truly original ideas for the shop, but you keep coming up with them. I'll consider this option when I revamp the side wing extension on my RAS station (if only to create a joy ride for kids). I'm keeping my table saw for ripping and other uses, but the RAS, which was my first stationary tool, remains my favorite for cross cutting and more. I have a twin RAS station, 1 old DeWalt and 1 old Craftman (dedicated dado blade), both equipped with your superb dust collection system. Thank you for that, too. Although I don't rip with the RAS anymore as a matter of convenience, I totally support the RAS approach to ripping. Properly done, I think its probably safer than using the table saw. With the blade guard properly positioned to prevent kickback, it's almost impossible to get your hand near a spinning blade. Keep up the good work-- in the shop, with your back, and with your wonderful family!

Very good idea. But doesn’t a table saw with an out feed fence do the same thing? Tommy, I like your videos a lot and appreciate your ingenuity. I started out with radial arm saws about 55 years ago and dedicated some effort to making them work safer, easier and more accurately. One day I worked with a friend with his table saw and went home and within a month had sold my good DeWalt RAS and replaced it with a good (Jet) table saw. You seem to still have all your fingers and you make some excellent projects so I’ll agree you are a guy who’s figured out how to get the most out of your RAS. But I think most folks can get better results more safely with a good table saw. Keep up your fine videos and be safe.

Great idea. What saw blades do you use? I just bought a Dewalt/B&D RAS and it's time to set it up.
@TommyTompkins5 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob - there are two saw blades that I'd recommend that have outstanding performance on the RAS. The general consensus on the DeWalt radial arm saw forum is that the Forrest Woodworker 1 blade with the TCG tooth design is the best combo blade for both cross cuts and ripping. For a 9" saw, the 8" blade is recommended as it's able to power through the cut more easily (more torque). You can get that here: www.sliversmill.com/product_1635_SPECIAL_Forrest_8_x_48T_Woodworker_I__TCG_Design_Used_by_Mr.html If you are looking for a cheaper blade with good cross cut and ripping performance, get the Freud LU83R008 - amzn.to/2PjfYF4 Also, if you don't have the Mr Sawdust book, get that at mrsawdust.com

What type of hinges have been used under the small flip table (1:31) please? Are these commercially available? Many thanks , subbed👍 Best regards AB
@TommyTompkins2 жыл бұрын
Those hinges are unique to the DeWalt 925H saw which was manufactured in 1960. I don't think they are commercially available anywhere, but it probably wouldn't be too difficult to fabricate your own.

How are you doing after adr surgery? How long did you try conservative treatment?
@TommyTompkins5 жыл бұрын
I'm doing very well after having ADR surgery. Thanks for asking! I declined slowly over 24 years until I was on a walker prior to surgery. I tried conservative therapies for at least 12 of those years with little to no benefit. Now I'm back to 100% in action and haven't felt this good since high school.

Nicely done Tommy! Best part was seeing the kids at the end having some fun. So glad to see that your back is holding up well. Are you planning on heading back to Germany for a follow up? Just curious.....
@TommyTompkins5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Steve! Yes, my back has been holding up well. I have absolutely no restrictions now and am back to enjoying a pain free life. The only follow up with Germany was to send them my 3 month and 6 month x-rays so they could make sure that everything was healing correctly. I'm well past that now and everything is good so no more follow up. These artificial discs are supposed to last the rest of my life so time will tell, but so far it's looking good.
