Hi Walt, Received the HamAlert when you were at W1 and was listening, but didn't hear you. The G90 probably would load that swing support tower. Steve K5ATA once connected his G90 to a handrail on a dock during a POTA in MS. Stay safe. 73 WJ3U

I seriously hope you try both unun’s and see if you can load that tower. I suspect a couple counter poise wire to capacitively balance it and it could be a ton of fun.

That would have been interesting to say the least. I've heard of loading up stuff like bedsprings, ladders, metal rain gutters, even curtain rods, just to see how they will perform and what can be worked.

Great video Walt! Thank you! I had just purchased a project case big enough to enclose two Ununs, with this very idea in mind. I wondered if you could do this and saw the Dually. I think I'm going to build a baffle between the two Toroids to be on the safe side. I know the band conditions have been crazy, being great one moment and falling apart five minutes later. Such is the way during Solar Cycle 25. It was great to see the Dually in action and will eventually buy one. Have the two mounted together is a brilliant idea. As always, I enjoyed this video. I was on the 10 meter band the other day and SImon HamJazz was live but the band started to fade rapidly when I tried to make contact. This type of problem makes amateur radio a little more exciting because when you do make a contact, under sketchy band conditions, you feel like you've pulled a fast on propagation. Thanks again...73...Hugh...KN6KNB

Walt, You could try building a linked radiator which would allow you to change from a EFHW to EFRW without taking the wire off your mast. I really like the idea of this UNUN and might just have to give it a try. Good Job, Ross, K8RLB

For random wire antennas, a switchable 1:1 (i.e., direct connect), 4:1 and 9:1 UNUN would be a handy device.

What a perfect location! The "Dually" is a great idea and hats off to K4QCD for making them. Thanks Walt for sharing some of the history on Rocky Point. We had a ton of amusement parks here in New England after WWII, and they're just about all gone now. PS. Can't wait to see how the tower loads up. It appears to be grounded, so a shunt feed would be best. Try it anyway! Every conductor will radiate and this will be a fantastic experiment. 73 OM 👍

The /W1 is no longer required to be added to your callsign. The bands are wonky? You just made contacts with SD & WA using 20w. How does that make them wonky?
@COASTALWAVESWIRES
@COASTALWAVESWIRES 3 ай бұрын
I’m doing it because I have a separate log for up here. I probably won’t use it all the time but I like separating my contacts out by location and using /W1 is completely acceptable. The band had horrible QSB, you could hear someone for a minute and then completely loose them. That’s what I meant by wonky.
@DarkShadowCustoms
@DarkShadowCustoms 3 ай бұрын
@@COASTALWAVESWIRES I was thinking the same thing truckinguy92 mentioned, but I can understand using the /W1 designation if you are using a separate log for that area. Make sure you add that /W1 as an additional callsign on your POTA account. Hopefully the park to park contacts included the /W1 when they logged you. A good reminder for folks to log what they hear.

@@Sabre2165 New ham here...are we supposed to use a different call sign for different areas within the US? I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere other than for outside the US.
@Sabre2165
@Sabre2165 3 ай бұрын
@@dadthejedi There is no legal requirement to do this within the US. It used to be that, if you moved to a different region of the US, you had to have a new call sign to identify where you live. That rule is gone, but many operators add a location code to indicate where they're actually operating from if other than where they live. For example, if you have callsign W1W and you're operating while on vacation in Hawaii, you might call yourself KH6/W1W or you might say "W1W stroke KH6." This quickly lets others know that they're making a contact with someone in Hawaii.

Whiskey one represents the ARRL call area that he's operating out of. New England is whiskey one, Southeast is whiskey 4. You can find a map of the sections if you really want. It's not required to use them, it just lets people know that you're not from there but you're operating from there
