🎣 Hi Steve, Really Great to see you showing how to tie line onto a spool Properly,! That is how I do it, by winding the line around three times then tying the knot! The line will not slip,! Simple,! 🙂 I have seen videos where that is not done properly,... 🎣

balanced outfit to suit your fishing style and activities. prefer beginning with a 2500 rather than the specialist small 1000 sizes unless only light estuary and freshwater. often one reel two spools and two rods creates versatility. and little to no sinker size in most situations. I started off with centre pins and later handlines great education. then learn to collect natural baits.

Fishing as a subject has numerous words for a wide range of specific topics e.g. equipment, tides, weather, licences, laws etc. Technology advancements keep adding to it, but frankly, the basics will get fish in the creel most times, and knowing the fundamentals and having a break from daily pressures, brings excellent rewards.

G'day Starlo. Life Pro Tip on filling up a spool (especially those without am extra pair of hands...) is to chuck the braid/mono into a bucket of water. Stops it flying off everywhere without causing much mess or stress. Can't argue with the rest of your beginners guide. Cheers!

went rock fishing today and there were schools of Taylor up close how ether i couldnt catch because the blow fish kept on eating the bait before the taylor could even the bait (i was using a triple 2/0 gang hook 25lb mono and a 42g star sinker with pilcards as bait edit i was using a running sinker rig

Sounds like you might need to switch to a lure - ideally a metal one the blowies can't chew up!

Also buy a rod that has a fibreglass tip so you can use bait and lures

Pretty sure you can use baits and lures with a rod with any sort of tip: fiberglass, composite or graphite? I certainly do.

@StarloGetsReel the spool that the line comes on is nice and smooth too. I used to get strange bust offs, on light line, and then I realised that the brand new line had nicks in it from the nasty rough spool.

Great video as usual Steve - Have an off-topic question for you about the Pegron tiger minnow spoon. Should I attach a small swivel to the split ring and my line to the swivel the way the Kiwis and Americans do with their spoons or would a better option be a quality snap swivel (small size with a rounded snap to allow the spoon to work properly)? I want to impart that irresistible side to side sway to hopefully fool one those big trout Thompson Creek Dam is famous for. Thanks heaps, mate. Cheers for that. Yres, I'd add a very small swivel or even a small solid brass ring to the split ring and tie to that. I'm not a big fan of clips, but if you DO choose to go that way, have a look at Mustad's Fastach clips - they're good.

@StarloGetsReel don't worry I like this stuff too. Like to see more basic fishing because for me I cannot still cracked the lure code besides a few here and there. Do you think the dailuna rod is good for casting metals off the beach I have the 8ft rod thanks
