Hi guys. Even though it's a beautiful spring, the temperature still drops to zero at night. Still too low temperature without a sleeping bag. This is a basic shelter that you can easily build with a machete in half an hour and you can build it even without tools, of course it will take a little longer.
A few tips for beginners:
1) Look for a drier place, not in a hole. If it rains, you will sleep in the puddle.
2) Build the shelter with its back to the wind and if you can in 45 degrees because of smoke from the campfire.
3) Watch out for old and leaning trees that could fall on your head during a night storm.
4) More layers means more insulation, more protection from wind and rain.
5) Green branches are not ideal as a mat, they will cool at night, but it is better than sleeping directly on the ground if you have nothing better and again, more layers - more insulation and more comfortable sleeping. Dry grass or leaves are better.
6) Collect enough wood on the fire for the whole night. You don't want to be looking for wood at 3 AM.
7) Urinate in several places around the camp, sometimes it helps to drive away animals (but not always).
