Can someone please help me out here... At the 3:01 mark of the video white played Be3, so why did black retreat Bb6 (cuz if black took Be3, white would have had doubled up pawns on e3 and e4, which seems disadvantageous)? Or is it good for white cuz the f-file is then open for white's rook? Similarly, at the 3:16 mark of the video black played Be6, is that to open up the h-file for black's rook if white trades bishops? But at the 16:42 mark, Aman trades bishops, rather than sliding his bishop back to b3 ??? thanks for any insights!
@arrenworden62263 жыл бұрын
Regarding the first 2 I have a few key points. 1. Doubled pawns does not always mean a bad position 2. Here the doubled pawn is putting a lot of pressure on the centre 3. If black captures, it meant black spent 2 waste moves a. One developing the black bishop first b. Capturing the white bishop And white played only one move a. Developing the bishop 4. If white captures the bishop, black plays a7 takes by, this opens the black rook on the now semi-open a file 5. In some cases if white gets the semi-open f file, he can put some pressure on blacks king side (you'll never see it beyond 1200) And hopefully that helps you get a strong insight. Overall in lower level matches there are a lot of blunders. But past 1500 every tiny detail counts. A single pawn can be the difference between a win and a loss. Hope that helps. Edit : The open f file for the rook is more of a weakness to your king than it is an advantage to your rook. Once the game progresses it becomes a weakness you can't ignore. However, an open h file is extremely advantageous for a rook lift. Instant activation for your rook. Very strong for both the middle game and especially in the end game.
@johnp8453 жыл бұрын
@@arrenworden6226 🙏
@faznaz74553 жыл бұрын
@@arrenworden6226 Actually both Bb6 and Bxe3 are fine objectively speaking. However, it’s not a good decision to take the bishop on e3 practically because white’s initiative and attack can get dangerous which requires precise play from black so in a practical sense this is harder to deal with especially in blitz format where you have to play moves quickly. Usually black aims to break on d5 and if need be protect f7 after taking on e3 (to gain space at cost of undoubling white pawns) which is necessary to prevent white from locking the centre which is beneficial for a kingside attack.
@arrenworden62263 жыл бұрын
@@faznaz7455 I would never have this position in a game ever. Very few people at higher levels go e4 e5. It mostly ends in a draw (ref. Candidates 2021) And white can't lock the centre. As black I can see so many possibilities to both a. Open the centre and b. Attack with a closed centre B6 and bx3 are both bad moves according to me. I can think of so many other alternatives. I'd mostly reroute my knight and try breaking in the centre maybe? Or just improve my position? But I usually don't play this as black and as white I respond with d4 directly. Also white can't go for a kingside attack. There's just no way. Unless your opponent makes a mistake. Not possible. Im not sure what your elo is so I can't really understand what kind of game you're going for.
@faznaz74553 жыл бұрын
@@arrenworden6226 Well you can guess my elo and i can tell you if you really wanted to know :) And your first paragraph makes half sense. It’s ridiculous to say that very few people play e4 at the higher levels when in fact it’s the most played move and e5 is either the most or second most common response (I can’t remember if c5 is chosen more or e5 but those are the top 2). So I don’t know what the hell you are talking about there. Playing e4 e5 is a very solid choice for black and black merely aims to get a safe position even if its drawish. Among the Super GM’s, the Berlin is the most popular choice of defence when faced with e4. And it’s also getting more popular amongst titled players. I’ve played the French and e4 e5 positions my entire life as both white and black. I’ve played the italian on both the white and black side too although choosing the 4 knights variation of the italian isn’t really ambitious at all and it’s not hard for black to equalise. If white wants to operate a kingside attack, they must deal with the potential threats in the centre and therefore white aims to lock the centre. Moves such as c4 Nc3 to clamp on the d5 square or attempting to stop black from playing d5 by putting pressure on e5 is how white normally manages to maintain initiative as black is responding to white’s play. A kingside attack is certainly plausible if white manages to stop black breaking through in the centre otherwise you just open up and weaken your king and normally with an open king if your opponent manages to find any source of counterplay then the rule of thumb is that the person attacking but with an open king cannot achieve better than a draw. This is true for the King’s indian and the g6 Ruy Lopez positions. Taking the bishop on e3 is a practical mistake although with perfect play you can still hold the position. White gets a lot of initiative on the semi open f file and can Rook lift to the g or h file or put the queen on g3 which makes putting a piece on f6 even more dangerous and of course playing f6 is a positional mistake. If you trade on e3 the ideal way to play is playing for d5 immediately as black followed by some sort of plan involving moving the queen to guard your own bishop to move to e6 and prevent damage to your pawn structure. If black manages to remain solid then white’s initiative just disappears as black improves its long term prospects which is ultimately a draw but black can be better in an endgame. The 4 knights is not something i would play as white at all.
