You've asked for it and here it is - a lowdown and a teardown of Mitsubishi's famous 4G63t. What engine would you like us to feature next? Let us know in the comments section:) ------------ Often voted alongside of Honda’s K-series and Nissan’s SR20 as the best import four cylinder engine of all times, Mitsubishi’s 4G63 is also one of the favourites within the JDM tuning and racing community. Hitting the spotlight in 1980s powering Mitsubishi’s World Rally Championship program Evolutions with the legendary Tommi Makinen, the 4G63s quickly reached a cult status among import enthusiasts. Quickly adapted for drag racing the 4G63 is now a common sight on strips around the world with Haltech heroes like Aaron Gregory and Devin Schultz pushing their 4G63T powered machines to consistent 7 and 8 second ¼ mile times at over 200mph! In this video we dig deep into the innards of this power plant to see what makes it one of the most revered four cylinders on the planet.

8:40 not only turned around but mirrored. The cams point the other way, but the exhaust manifold is still towards the front of the car. 21:53 If the engine is out its better to just get a balancer delete kit. And if you really want to keep it, replace the belt. Remember, the balancer is spinning twice as fast as the engine rpm, so it it could potentially rip at 15000rpm and break the cam belt or make it jump a cog potentially damaging the engine. Remember that you cant just remove them but the lubrication of the shafts need to be blocked using a readily availabe kit.

@david9291904 жыл бұрын
Magnus motorsports went into the crank walk issue and had suggested that it's the result of the revised second generation oil squirters sticking open. Since the revised squirters draw right off the main oil bearings instead of the main oil gallery it can cause oil starvation at low rpm when you would have the clutch pushed in. The 1993-94 DSM engines had the 7 bolt girdled block design but the early 6 bolt oil squirters design. Same with my 1992 Lancer GSR 7 bolt block.

I think you covered just about everything. Good job. My favorite thing about the 4G63 is that it responds so well to modifications. Even essentially stock internal motors can make good power easily. My 4G63 RWD swapped Datsun 510 (#4G63510) made 285whp at 10psi on a GT3076 with everything else stock. Turning the boost up to 14psi it made 345whp. I built the head and was about to do cams before I saw the numbers and now I'm scared to make more power. A 2300lb car on 205 width tires is a handful :-)

Fuel economy was poor too. Then time came to change the timing belt. I found the camshaft was out by TWO TEETH! The belt was in OK condition, seemed tight enough, all the rollers were fine, I can only think the timing has been out by miles for the past 100,000 km! The 4g69 is very similar to this motor the deck height is almost the same, its cast iron block/aluminum head, VVT, and its timing belts are very similar, except its 2.4L and SOHC... these things are very very slept on for building a fast NA or turbo car
