This is so awesome! I wish I had the time to learn how to do this too, but sadly I am too busy…anyway, I have been playing cello for 10+ years and from the look of it, the biggest thing you would benefit from changing is having the bridge curved to what a real cello bridge would be. This would reduce of the risk of bowing adjacent strings on accident when playing. This change also means that the fingerboard and nut must curve to match the bridge. However, If you decide to make these adjustments, I don’t think you’d have much difficulty because your craftsmanship is very good!

Thanks a lot! Yeah I actually noticed that exact issue about the bridge while recording with a violin for a song cover I hope to get released soon (not one I built but I did make the bridge). I'd say some sort of lap bar would also help out as it likes to twist and spin on me, lol... And I know the feeling, it sucks not having the time to pursue things, hence why I haven't done a video in like, 3+ months, lol. Anyway, I'll probably make those suggested adjustments as I plan on using the cello soon to record some parts on a soft rock album I hope to have released within the next few months!

@@abalanceproductions I think they sell cello fingerboards as they are online? That could save you SO much time dude. Along with your lap bar idea, a chest bar that creates of the thickness of a cello could also help you with the twistiness. But yeah, keep me updated on your progress!

I've always wanted to build my own cello, I used to play quite a lot but stopped once I started making music in a DAW.

I feel like I'd have to get my hands on an actual cello or consult with an actual cellist to get those details right but frankly I like the feel of it as is. My main gripe is that there's no body to brace against my legs so the thing loves spinning on me. I'm going to re-address this build eventually, I have a cool plan for an updated version! 😎

epic work dude , please give more details about the electronics !!! what pickup did u use and how did u go about installing it ? it looks like a guitar pickup? coz i want to start making 1 out of pallet wood also the documentation u used . can we get it sum where?

Thanks a lot! Yeah I really regret not doing more of a step by step when I did this. The pickup was off of Amazon and is called a hot rail pickup, there are several very inexpensive options (musiclily, alnico, wilkinson, etc) and more expensive ones as well of course. I had to use springs and spacers to get it near enough to the strings and the wiring was simply a single volume pot and an input jack. As for the documentation I simply googled cello schematics and diagrams and there were several options available that gave me precise information on every angle. I believe I also saw another youtube video on an electric cello build that looked really good. I haven't watched it but maybe see if you can track that one down? They might have better details! I've only known what a cello is for the past 6 hours. Doesn't it need a big box for the sound to bounce around in? I'm making 4 way magnetic and optical pickups to capture entire energy of string and there are like 24 combinations of the four. Quickly the guitar sound was gone and deeper richer tones appeared and faded and reappeared. Electric plucked as I don't play any instrument.

So far so good! Thinking of using it on an album I'm hopefully finishing up in the next month.. we'll see how that goes, lol
