Consider to pull network cable into your office space, wireless won't necessarily have enough coverage.

Also, whatever number of network items you'll be putting in/planning hardwired, it's a safe bet to triple the number of runs/drops during the reno stage. It's cheap now but a pain and $$$ later.

It'll probably have the coverage, just not enough penetration for good speeds for 5Ghz, even 2.4Ghz would struggle through all that stone and multiple wood/composite layers.

Recently did a remodel. The construction manager had the electrician meet with us. It was great. The electrician was able to point out some things that would/would not be the best way. We were able to solidify the electrical plan in no time. And installation went perfectly. The changes the electrician suggested were very much appreciated.

We pulled a hank of parachute cord across a huge expanse of drop ceiling using a radio controlled car. We opened one panel at one end of the room and then opened another at the other end, tied the cord to the car, and drove it to the other opening. With the cord we could than pull cable across the ceiling without having to open every tile along the way. That worked for signal wire, but it might not work with power wire. Best of luck!

In commercial work, we would mark the columns and walls with a builders level at 4’ Above Finished Floor. Then we would take a steel punch and punch the 4’ mark so it was permanent. The reason we did this is to give the HVAC, electrician and a plumbers a reference level point. This way if the plans stated 10’ ceiling they had the reference to measure up 6’ from that point (s) rather ask us over and over again for a reference points. When we did shopping centers some of the bays didn’t have concrete because of future plumbing for a restaurant. The laser levels changed that. I used the lasers for footings and they were great until it was hot and dusty. The dust picked up the laser and gave us bad readings!

Building trades instructor in Illinois, I use your videos for relevant content to go with my lessons all the time. Thanks for the great videos. One issue with closed cell spray foam you may want to consider in the future for use on ceilings is if you have a leak you wont be aware of it until you have a failure in the wood. Just an added thought.. Thanks again

That was interesting when you trimmed that tree/bush and then in the next shot where you were working on the floor wall boards and the tree had grown back.. LOL. Thinking about the TV on the wall, you could always use a smart TV to cast your computer images to and have a big view of your projects. There's nothing wrong with having a 65", or larger, TV Monitor to display images on for customers. That would be especially useful when you do a virtual walk-through of a potential remodel or new build.

I would considering removing most of that closet footage and make that space a workstation with a countertop to accommodate a couple of desk chairs so two or three people can sit there with their lap tops. I would then have open shelves above the length of the counter top for office items, materials books etc. You could also put small closets on each end of the recessed desk top area for office supplies, blue prints, file cabinet, etc. I would center the desk top between the two narrow closets. Doing so will make the space seem a little larger and much more useful work space.

New construction ceiling code is R-38 in Michigan & R-19 for walls. At 8:40 just add metal joist hanger straps to hold up the joists to the beam because wood will transfer cold more and reduce your R factor, even ever so slightly. Plus wood can split being so small. At 16:19 for best scribing results, use one of those contour gages "made for scribing". All you do is press it into the rock, lay it on the Zip board and trace the edges of the tool onto the Zip. At Lowes Marshalltown 10-in Plastic Contour Gauge for $10.98.

UI've had good success with a set of dividers for scribing. much faster than the contour gage. I agree about the joist hangars. Simpson makes a hangar with long legs. But also, how about a spiral stairway on the inside leading up to a door in that first deck landing. Oh wait... headroom. Hmm.

You need fire stop to separate the ceiling space from the wall cavities. The wall in front of the stone wall .. You should have installed 5/8 rock behind your ledger board up to the ceiling to block that section off and then nailed the ledger ontop of the 5/8 sheet to attach it to the studs.

Question: Did you consider installing a concrete curb as the perimeter so the wooden walls could rest on the curb (maybe 6" high) and not directly on the patio? That would help keep the water from touching the wood that would then not be directly on the patio. It would be like a curb in a shower.

It would make sense to install a sub panel instead of individual circuits. It’s easier to pull one heavy gauge wire and if a breaker ever trips, the sub panel is in the same space.

Instead of a scab, I’ve used 4x hangars in exactly this configuration. The 4x hangar seat will grab both tails of the overlapped 2x material, and gives you a much more positive attachment to the girder.

In this instance, a 4x8 or x10 hanger would get the nail points high enough on the girder, as an example. A 4x4 or 4x6 hanger would have the nail holes in the ‘air’.
