This is the best time of the build, seeing the rooms take shape and imagining the end result… fun stuff. Don’t loose your excitement during the “ crawl” cause at then end of that you move in.. btw I’m somewhat of a professional in terms of moisture removal for construction. If you want to remove moisture from hard surfaces it’s all about dew point spread. But honestly I think you are fine. When you turn on your HVAC system during the summer it’s going to suck the moisture right out. Especially if you have a mini split system, but conventional will knock it out as well. Looks great 👍

I have rolled a coat of linseed oil onto subfloor sheathing during a few construction jobs to repel rain/snow from penetrating immediately after installing the subfloor. Log home walls take a long time to construct so subfloor is exposed to the elements for a much longer period of time before roof structure begins. Snow shovels off of linseed protected subfloor much easier, and sweeping rain water off is also. Snapping chalk lines onto subfloor for interior wall construction is a bit less permanent though with the linseed coating so always best to use the red chalk for that. Looking good so far Mike!

I’ve helped build a lot of houses through high school, college and a few years after and I must say that’s the neatest job site I’ve ever seen. The straw was a great idea given the rainy spring. Just wondering in your area of the US since you don’t have basements, do you put a moisture barrier or crush’s stone in the crawl space? We built our dream house on 5 acres just over 20 years ago and it was an exciting time!
@MikeKincaid79 Жыл бұрын
No crushed stone in the crawl, just plastic barrier to keep the moisture out. Shellie and I have been cleaning up the job site almost every night after the guys leave. They were really happy with the clean up and straw, plus, the straw kept all the lumber very clean and mud free.

I've had to level my mobile home and all it does is keep sinking, lol. Looking forward to having a solid foundation. It's too cold to pour a slab on grade in our area. The building code wants the footer below the frost line so that's why we build with footers and stem walls. I think they have to go like 4 feet deep with the footers in colder areas like New England. My mom's house is a slab foundation but she lives in Phoenix. I'd have loved to have a basement but the water table is too high here.
