I mentioned this before but will say this differently just in case it did not register. Those push-button latches (door/drawer clackers) are wonderful on stable ground. But, when rocking and rolling with the weight of the drawers and what is inside those drawers and cabinets, they could (would) activate those spring-loaded devices without your help and self-open when you least want this to happen. If you later find out I'm correct you can add positive locking devices (latches) that would be used when you are sailing and use the push-button style when you're docked.

You are turning into a cabinet maker! Making your own jigs? Wow like a real carpenter! Every cabinet door/drawer is getting easier and now Kristen's luxury ideas are expanding! A bit late now but I'd suggest you prime your 4x8 sheet of plywood even before you start cutting it up, unless of course you plan on staining it. Oh and those sharpie markers are going to show through any regular paint. It's coming along and we are all rooting for yous!

Matt, are you thinking about how that wood is going to hold up over time? Swelling in the wet, salty environment? And also the movement of the boat in general? I'd imagine you'd be well served to be building with these concerns in mind...whilst underway, lots for forces put on the boat and what's in it, that are different than a regular kitchen on land.... best wishes. Fun to watch you and Kristen living the life! Cheers, Sam
@curtisduncan80432 жыл бұрын
Yes, you want to maintain their fit, so sand and seal all surfaces of that plywood, especially the edges, to prevent swelling. Good on ya for taking gangster to a (more) respectable level

Good series about boat rehab on a budget. He's some advice from a woodworker and cabinet maker hack. THROW THAT IMPACT DRIVER INTO THE ANCHOR LOCKER! That tool is made for driving long screws into 2x 10 decking. There is no control on speed as you are finding out. Get yourself a magnet bit holder and chuck it into the drill with the appropriate bit. Set the number on the chuck low, around say 8 and practice the slow even squeeze on the trigger. NO Pulsing! If the drill 'clutches out' set the number higher. You will find that you won't strip the screws. Now carry on Wood Meister !

I started my Sunday yesterday by watching your latest video. Good stuff. That sliding trash can arrangement is boss. I have one of those in my kitchen and it works great. That dragon door (😂) can't be original. Looks like an old bunk board. Sliders work great. The only issue with those is the tracks can collect stuff (like food bits), but minor point really. Matt, as I'm watching you do carpentry I keep thinking you would benefit by using a plane, like a simple block plane. The key is that it be sharp. So the next time you pass through Home Depot, I would pick up a block plane and a water stone. You may already have a sharpening stone aboard, but if not get a water stone which you can also use for your cutlery. Oil stones work, but a water stone you can use right at you galley sink. I was a boat carpenter/shipwright/systems installer for many years so I appreciate what you two are accomplishing. Also, that jig for the forstner bit is the solution when they skitter. Usually they have a small spur to keep them centered, but if you're also drilling overlapping holes, the jig is essential...as you've found out.

OMG, Making me laugh. Nice idea for the forstner bit jig. Some suggestions. The little ornamental shelf looking piece of wood to the left of where you are putting the trash can, you might want to remove it for the 2 inches more room. The pile of stuff you have opposite the stove-time for a dumpster run. Also since you're replacing the stove, get the old one out of there for more room to get around the kitchen space. Waiting for the continuation of the GBU saga.

The work you put in now will pay big dividends on the water. I am glad you included us in your boat project. You mission statement is in your title. Another great video! Thankyou! Keep up the great work. It's all a learning process and you're doing it. The "flatbit" I think you called it is perfect for what you were doing...slow and yes use another peice of wood too hold it and get depth. For boring holes through wood, fiberglass, etc..I use speedbores. They're fast, clean, and easier on the wrists.
