TIP 2 - the 'hanging' engine mounts on the frame - BEFORE you take them off, lightly score the attachment with the faring panel 'stud hole' in it (the parts with L and R on them) . I've found that there's a degree of variance in how the attachment will fit - and if you don't get it like it is/was when you disassemble it, it can make getting a good fairing fit much more tricky. As they're a high torque fixing - it isn't something you want to be taking in and out a number of times --- so scoring your starting point A. makes life easier, and B. gives those threads an easier time.

TIP for anyone else doing this - the manual states that the lock nuts for the long engine mounting bolts are ONE USE ONLY - so you're supposed to buy new ones, rather than re-use them. It's worthwhile ordering them before you get to this point, then you have them to hand before you start. {Some people might not think it's that important ... but given the role they do, a few extra £ seems worth it for the peace of mind!}

Bez podkladki nakrycie dolu z Gixera glowica z RFy skonczy sie wzrosem kompresi do ok 18:1 i kolizja zaworow z tlokami wiec podkladka to mus. Walki mozna uzyc zarowno z RFy jak i z GSXR 1100 i 750. Te z RFy sa najlagodniejsze i gwarantuja najlepszy dol, te z Gixerow daja wiecej mocnej gory. Potem dostrojenie gaznikow z RF900 i wymiana dysz pod wiekszy silnik. Jakis "uwolniony" wydech i wyskoprzepustowy filts powietrza mozna juz jezdzic:) Oczywiscie mozna pojsc znacznie dalej:) Wszytsko zalezy od portfela. Ja juz natomiast mysle nad kolejnym krokiem i zaczalem juz gromadzenie czesci zeby pomierzyc to i tamto:) Moze cos z tego bedzie, zobaczymy :) Pozdro i dzieki za komentarz!

Great project, fantastic result. You really have put allot of thought into this. I also have an RF900 in the garage sitting idol and often wondered about doing something similar to this. After many cups of tea pondering, I keep coming back to the simple idea of putting stock 1100 pistons into the RF900 engine. Or going OTT and going down the 1100 big bore piston kit route. Do you think that would have been easier and could give similar results?

Thanks for your comment bud. Now to answer your questions. Stock gsxr1100w pistons(75.5mm)won't go in RF900 engine cause RF's barrels only bore out to 75m without resleeving. You could use gsxr1100w barrels on RF's bottom end and bore them out but it would still not work cause Gsxr1100w has larger wrist pins so you'd need to also use gsxr 1100w rods. That would necessitate to use gsxr1100w crank cause gixer's rods won't mate with RF's crank.. So as you can see the way i did that is actually the easiest way. Having the whole bottom end from gsxr1100w gives better potential cause barrels bore out more without necessity of resleeving. RF barrels will take 75mm max and GSXR barrels will take 77mm(1117cc) easy and possibly 78mm(1146cc) with a bit of god's blessing. With new sleeves Gixer's barrels can take up to 79.5mm bore which will give 1200cc. That would be quite nasty engine lol Sadly new sleeves and pistons would cost an arm and a leg..

@@Adikxx Yes, I had thought those 11 pistons might be a bit much for the stock 9 sleeves. And I hadn't considered the con rod compatibility. Now I will brew another cuppa and consider extracting the sleeves out of my used 11 block and having a custom set of gudgeon pins with spacers made up or modify the pistons. Great response and impressive project you have filmed and shared with us. Really looking forward to seeing how your RF rides. The stock RF900 was strong, and those extra cc's will undoubtable improve the low down punch! Great work 👌👍😎

NIce job! i'm considering doing that engine to my tired rf900, what did you do for jetting? any change required?
@Adikxx
@Adikxx 3 жыл бұрын
I had Dynojet stage 1 kit on my RF carbs. That kit comes with different springs,needles and 118 main jets. That is for a bike with at least some decent can and high flow air filter.
