I'm eyeing Tru Grit's "Power Bar", because it's not actually a power bar. 28mm shaft (too thin), needle bearings (not bushings) and 45 pounds (freedom units!) makes this a weightlifting bar for US Customary Units enthusiasts, I'm pretty sure the only one on the market. Seems to be on-sale for the moment at $180 shipped from JeffyB or $184 and whatever direct from Tru Grit. You should treat those pound Savage Bumpers to a pound weightlifting bar! Now where to find 5 pound collars. :( 9:20 Speaking of Hulkfit, they have "calibrated" powerlifting plates now (pounds, of course). I don't think I've seen anyone use or weigh them yet; someone will pull the trigger eventually!

My dumbbell solution has been 1 inch plates and a collection of bars to serve as handles and a bunch of clamps. Most of this from a bunch of wheeling and dealing I did before covid. I'd buy a batch of stuff, sell of what I didn't want or need and usually hang on to the 1" plates of 10lbs or less, eventually kept a bunch of 25s for my cable system too. I just assemble a couple different weights and I can modify them as I need to. I even cut down a rusty 1" barbell to use for heavy DB Croc style rows. Olympic handles are kinda expensive, especially if you want long ones to load up the weight, and using anything bigger than 25lb plates becomes a problem for most movements. Loading up on 10lb oly plates is probably a bit more expensive than 1" plates. Until recently 1" stuff could be had cheap since everyone thinks oly is the shit, im not sure I would go that route today because all weights are stupid expensive, even the cheesy plastic weights! Another cheap route is a 10 foot iron pipe for probably 30 bucks, cut 3 feet of and you have a 7 foot thick barbell and a 3 foot long thick dumbbell handle.

Thanks for mentioning the BalanceFrom/Everyday Essentials/Whoever-the-hell bought-from-that-factory-this-week bumpers. I'm pricing out bumpers and the price almost seems too good to be true. My gym is going to be in a second floor room so I have to keep impacts limited. Fringe is currently doing a 370lb set of the black bumpers for $830, but the steel hubbed "Generics" are $700 at Walmart.(5/5/22)
@GlucksGym2 жыл бұрын
Fringe makes pretty good bumpers and the black, contrast, color, and Savages are the same thing just look different. With the hook abd quality they make good bumpers and are a few steps above these. Oddly enough on Amazon these are much cheaper than even in person at Walmart around here

@GlucksGym2 жыл бұрын
What are your normal collars? I haven't noticed the same issue but truth be told I haven't paid much attention either.
@rustyclark63062 жыл бұрын
@@GlucksGym The normal Amazon ones that you show. I have six different sets of them. After the plate came off I did a test with them, holding various weights in a static, vertical position. Four sets would hold a 10-pounder without issue, but for two sets the plate would slide all the way down the sleeve in about 15-20 seconds (one of those was the one that came off while curling). I also repeated the test with a 25-pound plate, and not one of them would hold it in position... they all slid down in only a few seconds. The Rogue HG 2.0 Axle Collars, however, can hold a 45-pound plate on them for several minutes without it moving (I stopped timing after 3 minutes). My calipers show that the sleeves on my Titan DBs are 1.944 inches (~49.4mm) while the sleeves on both my Wright Equipment Power Bar and Synergee Rhino Bar are 1.964 inches (~49.9mm). That half millimeter makes a big difference in the ability for a collar to clamp down tight enough to hold a heavier weight, especially when it's in motion. I will caveat this with the fact that not one review of these handles on Titan's site mentions this issue, so I concede that I may just have a one-off set with undersized sleeves.

The ultimate budget gym, is a set or two of resistance bands. Before I built my own home gym, I managed to replace my whole gym routine using resistance bands, a door anchor and some carabiners I used as handles for deadlifting. I still use resistance bands for my cable work at home, using my rack as an anchor /attachement point. Yes, rings are a good and versatile tool. But it does not come close to resistance bands in terms of both versatility and usability. EDIT: Wrote this before I came to the part of the video about resistance bands. 🙃

I wrote my “recommendation” in your comment where you asked for an ultimate budget gym item. Perhaps budget really depends on where you live, so my choice might be utterly wrong for some people. I ended up writing a lot more than just that, i wrote an entire essay! I know that there are always thing to improve on and things to debate, but in all honesty i think just a little imagination is all we need to make great gyms. Perhaps if you find some time, you could give some feedback on my very, very lenghty and tedious rant. I would happily read it :) Im sure i messed up somewhere though ahaha. Maybe i just needed to write out as much because ive been seeing the same recommendations from so many youtubers with big rooms etc. But in any case, its a huge relief to have finally said it, however it may be 😅 And maybe one day i will be able to build a bigger garage(it is one of my future plans), and perhaps then i could make some changes that better resembles a great gym. I could start with flooring…

Ultimate budget gym item? Rogue Boneyard bars. If you're patient you can take advantage of whatever weird algorithm they have and get one of the best bars money can buy for literally half what you'd pay retail. E.G. you can get a Rogue 2.0 bar bare steel/raw boneyard for cheaper than the Bells of Steel shipped ($165 before shipping). Not sure why everyone is always claiming the Bells of Steel bar is the best value. I'd only choose it as part of their package, where you do end up saving enough money overall that it's worth it over a Boneyard bar. Boneyard prices haven't gone up since the pandemic started when retail has gone up like 20% or more. They're a better deal than ever and I wouldn't bother with anything else unless you're on a SERIOUSLY tight budget. I've purchased 4 now, and still have 3 (OPB stainless, Chan, Oly) and only one of them has a noticeable issue (double tracked knurl on the bare Ohio bar I sold).
