I’ve tried to pin down the total cost for the model as I’m interested in possibly getting one! I’ve been trying the contact at the company to make avail as to total cost! Any idea?

You can magnetize a screwdriver by passing a magnet over the tip. Starting on the shaft and moving toward the tip. Making Shure you go in the same direction. Demag by going in the opposite direction. only takes one or two passes. Matriculas build. I am liking this!

One trick I picked up, to make sure you don't cross thread screws, turn the driver counter clockwise until you feel the threads line up then, turn the driver clockwise to tighten the screw down. You'll never cross thread a screw if you use that method.

Love your videos. FWIW, I use tweezers to only remove the screws from the bag that I need. I find it easier than trying to put the extra one(s) back in the bag. Then I arrange the opened bags alphabetically standing up in a tray to make finding specific screws in the future.

I trick I learned with RC cars and small screws. I use a Neodymium magnet at the end of the screw driver to help hold the screw to the driver. You can purchase small round magnets at your local hardware store.

Very nice, I've never built a subscription kit or anything that large. Looks high quality.🙂👍

Boyd, just put a neodymium magnet on the shaft of the screw driver. Doesn’t need to be a big one. Works a charm,

What I did building my DeLorean build when it came to tiny parts in the blister pack is put a strip of clear tape over the open top holding the tiny part bending one end of the tape so it's easy to lift off later...I kept the tape on till I needed the part and when I went to remove the part I SLOWLY lifted the tape to get to those tiny parts and it worked really good, this way if you should bump the blister pack or knock it on the floor you know your tiny parts are safe. To make the metal to metal screws to go in smoother into a metal holes, use a small container of oil used for sqeeking doors ect and dip the threaded part of the screw into the oil. and get a few pill calander cases you know the one that has Sun-Mon that has 7 compartments attached to each other and scrape off the lettering and use a marker to mark your scew sizes to store extra scews. Hope this tip helps out Boyd. Just to let you know this is Rick, I used to have the youtube channel name Wraith 20072007 and this is my new channel name, I mentioned the springs for the Eagle build which you did a fantastic job on btw...anyway hope all is well with you and the Fam TTYL Bro.

Im not sure if it would be cheaper or not but you can rub candle wax on the screws too so they thread in easier vs using the lithium grease.

One of my all time favorite vehicles, period. If it were possible for me to own a Ford GT40 of any model year (and take care of it properly) I would. But alas, it was never meant to be.

Mine too! There was just something special about these cars and that period of time. I also love that era of F1 before the wings came in. Those were beautiful looking cars.

I don't know if you are aware but a person who does a lot of the part work builds is Wayne Green from World of Wayne. Good reference material. I have done a few of these type of builds and most of the time the company puts at least 1 extra screw in each screw pack. It is good to keep them in case you get the same type of screw in the future and either the threads or the head is stripped.
@jjones5522 жыл бұрын
They give you at least one extra screw per type of screw in the pack to feed the carpet monster.

That's good to know, makes me nervous trying not to lose any small parts.

Boyd, one the things I hate is wearing nitrile gloves to protect from greasy fingers so I use nitrile finger cots. Very inexpensive and does the job. And you can reuse them if you’re careful.
@thecarolinahoosier35962 жыл бұрын
I wear extremely thin cotton glove liners. (Sometimes called "curator gloves" like they use at museums.) They're cheap. More important, they breathe so your hand doesn't sweat while still keeping fingerprints off painted and clear parts.

I built the de Agostini GT 500. I have to say that when I sat back and looked at it, it was not worth the 1,100 euros that I paid for it. Some details and plastic parts that could have been cast really let it down. But hey, the GT40 looks really cool so far.
@outsider2382 жыл бұрын
Looking great so far! That was an excellent idea to wax those parts. They definitely get a lot of handling. I ended up buying a little tacklebox from Walmart's sporting goods section that has all the compartments for keeping the screws. You'll probably end up using some of those later and it's good to have spares. I'm wondering if Deagostini will provide a binder for the magazines. For the R2-D2 build, they still haven't provided any. The Enterprise had some but that was a different company. Great work and I hope you continue to get the parts.
@TrekWorks2 жыл бұрын
Someone else said that they do give you more screws with each pack so that's good. I should get something to put the screws in and be better organized. I was leary about signing up for a subscription kit because on the issues you and others have had but when I checked out DeAgostini, they seemed to have a pretty good rep. The pandemic definitely effected all of these type of services though.
@outsider2382 жыл бұрын
@@TrekWorks Yeah it looks like they're getting things back in order now. I did have a nearly 6 month delay on parts for R2-D2 for parts pack 11 and I have no idea what happened. It wasn't until a friend that's got connections with Deagostini (Fanhome) that things got moving again. So far there hasn't been any more issues thankfully. They really do need to offer these kits as a whole kit as an option if people want to just buy the whole kit. I won't be doing any more of these unless they have that option in the future. Too many things can happen in the two years it takes to complete these kits.

I wonder how it would work instead of putting wax on which is a good idea I never thought about that, what did you ever think of taking it to that extreme level and putting a ceramic coating on these pieces especially with this model that you're building since it's already painted an easy to do?
@TrekWorks2 жыл бұрын
I used the wax I have since I know it works well to protect the paint. I'm sure you could use the ceramic coating and it wouldn't harm anything. Not sure if you'd gain anything over regular wax. The ceramic coatings are meant to protect against the outdoors elements and you don't really need that for a indoors kept model.
@charliesmorykin382 жыл бұрын
@@TrekWorks the only reason I was asking is on a full size automobile ceramic coating should last for years and that's when a real car, could you imagine it would last forever on a model car so I don't know but I never thought about waxing my cars prior to assembly I guess you learned something new everyday and I'm 67 years old and I've been building models ever since I was a kid and I'm still learning LOL

They have magnetizers for screwdrivers.. they're cheap. An egg carton is great for a lot of little screws.

Are these subscription models polystyrene assembly kits akin to what I recall in my youth and younger years? I see a lot of metal fixtures-- better in some ways, but unknown territory, that. Do I understand correctly that one periodically (monthly?) orders a portion? Personally, I will wait till I can acquire a complete kit. Or several.
@TrekWorks2 жыл бұрын
This model is mostly metal die cast. It is a subscription kit and you receive parts packs each month. I believe they do offer complete kit's from time to time if you want everything at once.

The Ford GT model is complete in 110 assembly stages (parts to build and magazines). This at £10.99 an issue ( plus £1 postage) could mean a total of in the region £1315 !! OUCH
