I have a go at putting together my first clock. There's no need for glue with this kit, so grab yourself a hobby knife and let's get our hands dirty!

After fine tuning and realigning the gears my Rokr clock runs very well...l superglued critical points to beef it up a bit...

"...you struggle to understand why people have so much trouble putting flat-pack furniture together.." This is so relatable! In fact, I actually find it somewhat relaxing to build a kit that is well documented and isn't missing any pieces. Thanks for this video, it was quite helpful!

@@squirlmy Hello. I'm just some guy trying to get into clocks. I'm doing a distance learning course with the British Horological Institute. Just had all of my savings wiped out with home repairs (including all of my savings for equipment) so everything has gone on hold until I can refill the coffers a bit.

Good review. I assembled the kit last week, and it ran ok. By the end of the day, it ran for exactly 9 hours. However a 9hr run is not an effective clock, so I have modified the kit; removed the spring and replaced with a weight. Two disks, one attached to the drive shaft and another in the centre to permit the cord to drop vertically from the centre of the clock. Under test now, but there is enough cord for a weeks continuous run.

Great video. I found it particularly helpful as my assembly instructions were printed in Chinese! I wonder if you put in a more powerful main spring whether the clock would run for longer?

Mine’s going strong for 8 hours at a stretch. I also did a few modifications. I added a second hand connected to the escape wheel.
@TheStavros000
@TheStavros000 3 жыл бұрын
How did you connected the second hand to the clock?? Mine works for six hours and I am trying to find ways to extend its working time either with a bigger spring or a hanging weight. It is varnished with a lightly colored varnish ( chestnut like), the hour and minutes hands are painted white and it is quite accurate timewise. A Very nice piece overall.

Just finished mine and it's ticking away beside me. It's excellent! It's a bit confusing that that are two pinions on the back of the hour wheel that don't mesh with anything. I assume this is intentional as the clock is running fine and there's no way of adjusting the spacers so they'd mesh with anything else anyway. Strange!

They should have used a different escapement. It's a escapement without recoil and the thing with these escapements is that they are more accurate than escapements with recoil but they are more likely to stop. Maybe you could try some oil on the pendulum and use some grease on the teeth of the escapewheel. Or try a lighter pendulum weight, maybe it will help. So and if all fails change the mainspring to a weight and ad as much weight as you need.

I think you should have used glue, but maybe not how you expected. When you put rapid glue on, and between the teeth of ALL gears, and than sand them smooth, they will be a lot harder, which reduces the friction between them a big lot. Especially this goes for the escapement... Nice vid anyway!
