Alex, I just watched this excellent video and had a question. What if cameras are NOT Blackmagic, how would you replace the videos once the project created in the ATEM ISO is brought into Davinci Resolve? Is there a simple way to replace while maintaining AV sync?
@AlexPettitt Жыл бұрын
Hey Mark great question. Unfortunately not. The workflow with BM cams and ATEM ISO works because they send a two way connection to eachother which includes timecode, so everything is sync. Other Cams don't do this with the ATEM. So unless you found a way to extract the timecode from the ATEM Mini and send it to all your cameras, there's no way for this this feature to work with non Blackmagic cameras. I hope this helps :)

Great video Alex! Any tips for a situation where you’re also recording the output of a computer monitor into the ATEM (in 1080) and want to replace it later with a 4K file that’s been recorded on the computer itself, while also using the same vision mixing technique? I wonder if it can work as smoothly as the braw method.
@AlexPettitt2 жыл бұрын
Hey Andri, good question! I have to be honest and say I usually manually record my comp screen in 4K using Quicktime, and just make sure in Quicktime the audio recording is set to my ATEM Mini. Then use the auto sync function in DaVinci to sync by audio, or do a sync clap and sync manually. Either way is super quick. Hope this helps :)
@AndriSoren2 жыл бұрын
@@AlexPettitt thanks! Good solutions, though unless I’m mistaken they would involve chopping up the screen recording manutally to match the edits in the ISO Davinci file. I keep wondering if there won’t one day be way to replace the chopped up ISO edit with higher-res material (as with the RAW replacement workflow) as it would be really handy. Again, a great video, and a really good idea to show real world situations, thanks again.

I dunno about recording on the computer itself, but you could output the computer HDMI in 4K into a 4K hyperdeck. I have a mainly SDI workflow so I’m not sure if a 4K hyperdeck would pass the video through the HDMI output for input into the ATEM but I think they do. Also I don’t know if you’d need an UpDownCross before the ATEM or if it can downscale from 4K.

This is the first I've caught of your channel Alex. Really cool video. Great workflow. Something I'd be interested to hear about for these broadcast set ups is if you have any advice on how they should be archiving thier shows / edits. If the content was evergreen, and they've captured in 6k but output in 4k... would there be value in them exporting a consolidated project for future edits... or perhaps a second output of the final show file in a higher quality codec, maybe even with dedicated audio channels for music, vox, and other sound sources so they're not baked into a 2 channel. Would love to hear your thoughts on that or see those type of "future proofing" tips included in one of these type of videos.

interested to know the reasoning behind choosing 6k raw for podcast recording, surely 4k prores 422 or 4444 would be more than enough for youtube & would allow for projects to be stored on the nas
@AlexPettitt2 жыл бұрын
Hey Kyle, the reason behind this is when you plug a BM camera into an ATEM Mini, it goes into a separate 'live' mode, that will only allow you to record in BRAW. Theres a number of benefits to this, but I agree there are definitely some cases where that much data just isn't needed, and having the option to record even at ProRes Proxy would be nice :)
@usmanmajid7837 Жыл бұрын
Brilliant video! As someone who slaves away doing manual multi-cam cuts, I’m looking into the world of switchers especially since we record a lot of live events. Is there a way to replicate this process but using Premiere Pro? Also, how would you go about colour grading your camera angles if the cuts are already made? In Premiere for example, I have a multi cam source sequence with all camera angles layered on track 1,2,3 etc… then a target of ‘editing’ sequence where I make the cuts. I colour grade all cameras in the source sequence which automatically reflects in the final edit. How would this work if the ATEM switchers already cut everything?

Awesome video Alex! I really like this format I was so excited for this until I figured out this setup will only work with the Blackmagic cameras. I use Lumix G mirrorless cameras that can't record and send HDMI at the same time, so I am stuck with either Recording 4K in the cameras (then editing it all together) or Livestreaming/Recording in 1080p on the ATEM Extreme ISO and being tied to the encoders quality (I will likely have to use "streaming low" as I stream via mobile data).
@AlexPettitt2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words about the video. Strange that you're not able to record in the cams at the same time as outputting via HDMI on the Lumix, i've never heard of this issue before. What happens when you try to do it... does the camera overheat and shut off?
@sjoerdkessels7122 жыл бұрын
you could use something like a BlackMagic Video Assist or something simular to record 4K out of the camera, and use a HDMI out on the recorder tos end the signal to the Atem Mini as well.
@KLRCAT2 жыл бұрын
@@AlexPettitt Yeah, The HDMI output goes black and has the words "now recording video". I recently figured this out quite awkwardly on a gig as I said I would record 4K while streaming (as a backup), but as we were about to go live and I hit record on my cameras and the feeds on the ATEM went black. I quickly turned off the camera recording, started the ISO recording on the ATEM and started the show with a 40 second delay. Btw, your videos have been super helpful in helping me build my livestreaming kit, I recently implemented the Reaspberry Pi with Speedify for network bonding. I now also have a backup encoder (the URayTech HEVC H.265) which I use if I want to get better recording quality on the ATEM (Hyperdeck High).
@KLRCAT2 жыл бұрын
@@sjoerdkessels712 That is true, but that would become quite costly, as I have a 3 camera setup, so I would need a Video Assist for each camera. If I get the budget (or there is a deal), I may implement that strategy (or I might get 3 BM Cinema Camera 4Ks)
@dirk.4711 Жыл бұрын
@@KLRCAT This is only if you use the Lumix G7/G70 and older. From the Lumix G81 on, the camera sends the signal to the ATEM Mini also while recording. No black viewfinder anymore. I guess the processor of the very old Lumix cameras is not fast enough to do both at the same time without overheating, so Panasonic disabade it with these old cameras.

Thanks a lot for your help! :)
@AlexPettitt2 жыл бұрын
Good question, for this you MUST use a BlackMagic Bi-Directional converter on each end and run 2 SDI cables per camera (one for in and the other for out). Then it will work. The other option (depending on length needed) is to look at optical HDMI cables. You can usually get these up to 100m or so. Just make sure they are ARC enabled :) Hope this helps

There's one step I'd like to improve on, though, and I wonder how this could be done: Say I wanted to be able to take the content, and edit, without needing to unplug the SSDs from the cameras and the ATEM. Could it work like, instead of having the separate SSDs, connecting all cameras + ATEM straight into the NAS, perhaps? And record it all directly into there? Maybe this would be an issue, like the NAS is then handling 4+ streams of data being fed to it, might be a little much, right. What would be the solution here?

@@AlexPettitt Great, thanks! The only problem is that it records in 1080p which doesn't really work with the 4k (or 6k) braw footage from the cameras. I think I will have to recreate my supersource layout in davinci then.

Is there a reason why you didn't connect one of the 5 outputs of the Rødecaster Pro to the line/mic in of the ATEM to get the good processed audio straight into the video? I've tried that and it seems to work. As long as the audio coming into the ATEM Mini is high volume it is absolutely good enough. We have 3 studios where we use Wirecast and ATEM minis and all our audio get processed by different audio mixers and then send to Wirecast and ATEM (depending on use case)... we have done many hundred livestreams like that in the last 2 years.

Are they using in camera LUTS or are they or you doing any coloring in post?

Mainly using in camera LUTS as the lighting is all very controlled in that space :)

Hi there, does an Atem extreme ISO save all camera angles on cameras that are not black magic ?

Would the 4K Raw file in davinci work with other file formats from different cameras that aren't blackmagic?
