Nice job. I am really taken with the way you cut the spline inlays. I have only seen it done on the router table before and I find set up really difficult that way. I am going to try it on the table saw now. Thanks for sharing.

I was going to say, You must really love that game! Then I saw you called it "The best board game ever." So it would make sense that you built the most amazing box in the free world. (China has a golden one)

Fantastic job! That box is an heirloom for sure! 👍👍👏👏😉😉

It needs some color on the front so the carving shows better. Just a good hand wiped tinted oil finish would do wonders.

I'm for sure going to use your "table saw, table saw, bandsaw" method for resawing wood from now on. Thanks! Now here's a tip for you for when you're cutting the top off your box: Cut both sides of the box as you did. Then cut the ends in a similar way, but lower your blade so you leave the last 1/16" of the material intact. This is enough to hold the lid steady as you make the final cut. Use a utility knife to cut through the last 1/16" to free the lid from the box. It's a tiny bit more time, but way easier on the nerves.

This is awesome. My kids bought a monsterous electronic monopoly game, and it rattles around loosely in the box. I didn't have a large chunk of MDF but I did have plenty of offcuts, packing tape and a can of expanding foam. So that's how I made my custom insert. Yours looks a fair bit nearer though.

Wow! Dovetail splines! I have never done those before! I used glue and brad nails on my boxes, but that is a much classier solution.

Fantastic work, dude! Really nicely done! 😃 You know, I'm thinking about the CNC thing... But I can't right now, unfortunately. But one day... 😬 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Very nice. Love seeing you use your CNC. I'm building one for myself but not exactly sure what I'm going to do with it. It's nice to see real examples like this. A short video on your workflow from model to CAM to running the machine would be nice, if you have the time.

You can make "name keychains" for every one you know. I have a home made CNC machine (well half homemade - got a lot of the parts from a junked machine, and made barrowed or stole the rest). Ive been a carpenter for a long time, but the learning CAM/AutoCAD/ Blender stuff Is still a on going process. Sometimes I just get tired of messing with it and just do it by hand.

Nicely done! I'm surprised you haven't swapped out the router for a 2.2hp spindle yet - they're "reasonably" inexpensive and dramatically quieter than a router.

Why’d you use both the table saw and bandsaw, instead of just the bandsaw, to re-saw the wood? (Damn, there’s a lot of ‘saws’ in that question.) Also, thanks for the acetone photo transfer tip!
@DIYBuilds3 жыл бұрын
Because the table saw removes more material faster than the bandsaw blades i own

Nice but one complaint: You said I could make that jig out of anything but I'm here to tell you using jello is not advised. At least not strawberry flavor. Probably should have went with the lime.
@DIYBuilds3 жыл бұрын
You are correct. Making it out of strawberry is suicide. Obviously by made of anything that implies grape jello only.

Watched again just to hear you casually say "MDF nightmare." Anytime you have something that is overgrown or odd it's a good descriptor.
