Күн бұрын

In this weeks episode of the cr125 build series, I am doing a time lapse of the entire two stroke engine build of this bike from start to finish. This includes an entire rebuild of the bottom end of the engine where I replaced every bearing and the crankshaft using a wrench rabbit engine rebuild kit. I also replaced the clutch plates and a couple other wear items. Then, I Cerakote the engine cases and followed up with installing a vertex piston into the top end as well as a Phat head racing cylinder head. After this, I added a lot more aftermarket parts including a restored pro circuit pipe, electron carburetor, and v force reeds. Thank you guys for watching- and yes will we get this engine into the frame soon enough.

Nice rebuild , I did the same to mine except before I removed the old bearings,I sealed them with silicone and filled the crack case with water to measure crank case volume... , smooth out all the sharp edges and fill the sharp inside corners of the engine casing with weld and grind back smoothly. Measure again to achieve original CCV after removing and adding crank case material and before removing the sealed bearings .. bottom end is flowed, makes great power gains!

In my 1959 Kreidler motor disassembly and assembly guide it says to heat the motor housings to about 150 Celsius before removing the bearings because the pres fit could be weakened. You might want to do that.

Cool video...this brings back so many memories...I raced motocross as a kid and earned an AMA Expert license in 125cc Motocross (YZ125) as Jr. in H.S. in central Florida in the early 70's. the Airboxes weren't bulletproof like they are these days and we were constantly fighting to keep sand out of the induction system. We tore the engine(s) (we had two engines) down after every race to inspect (my Dad was an Engineer out at Cape Canaveral and was my wrnech) and frequently after the week of practice too. We would rering every third race and anything my Dad found that didn't meet the blueprint specs was reworked/replaced.

It looks nice. I would never use the scuffpad on the cylinder wall. It is a honed surface, And I always lube the cylinder wall, the piston rings, the bearings of the conrod and the crankshaft bearings. Also a ggod idea to add a tiny bit of silicone grease to the seald and O-rings when you install them. I like to turn the crank a few times by hand and wipe the access oil is added, and add some back. Usually the oil I wipe down is nasty even the parts are spotless, so I repeat it a few times. That way the parts are oiled up on the first start, and as clean as they can get. It will smoke a lil' for sure, but I never had a problem with a few minutes of smoking at the first start. And you did a lil too much heat on the exhaust.
@adampaganelli4891

Be careful to much lubrication on your cylinder wall will cause cylinder glazing and loss of compression
@mattyadarab

Thanks for the advice. I missed it in the text but I have a good method to apply just the right amount. I use a clean cloth/rag, ligthly dipped the middle of it in the oil I will use in the premix(I'm not a big fan of assembly lube etc, the 2t oil is designed to be used there), and i apply a thin layer with the cloth. This method is great because all it needs is a clean rag, and some paitence. And there is not so much wasted oil if you dont soak the rag, Actually all it needs is a few ml.

Only thing I would add is you need to run a tri-stone hone in the cylinder to "cross hatch" pattern score the sleeve. Otherwise the new rings will not seat correctly and this can lead to blow by and lots of other problems in the case (fuel in oil, high case pressure, blown case gaskets, etc...).

Two stroke exhaust is shaped so the shock wave (caused by exhaust port opening) flings down the expanding cone at the speed of sound. it creates a suction which pulls exhaust and fresh gas through the engine. When the shock wave hits the reverse cone it bounces back stuffing the fresh gas back into the cylinder. The incoming charge is still moving from the carb, so the cylinder gets stuffed from both sides. It's all about the speed of sound so can only work over a narrow speed range. It varies with pressure and temperature making tuning very tricky. Invented by the late great Walter Kaaden (in communist East Germany) with next to no technical resources. The engine power band can be increased with a movable exhaust port to alter how soon it opens and a movable reverse cone in the exhaust chamber that varies the bounce-back time. But that changes everything else. Simple mechanics. VERY complex dynamics.

Yamaha YZ125. No joke, I raced and won races with my Honda 125 Unlimited class Shifter karts (106 mph). And the Yamaha engine is superior in every-way. Out of the box 5+ hp vs Honda.

I'm not sure what's so ultimate about it. I hate how you are setting those bearings with sockets, should use aluminum or brass stock, and how you hand sanded the sleeve. It's not a build, it's a rebuild, with what looks like mostly new parts. I'm wondering how long till the "diagnosing two stroke engine failiure" video comes out.

Someones jealous. By the way if you have ever gotten off the couch and built an engine you wouldn't be so ignorant to the fact that using sockets to knock out and knock in bearings is just as effective, easy and simple as using a "stock". What about him hand sanding the sleeve? He did it perfectly.

Nice build, looks good. One question after all that work and money spend it looked like you just cleaned and scotch brited the cylinder. You put new piston and rings in an old cylinder. Why not get it at least honed or better yet re-nikasil or new cylinder works?
@adampaganelli4891
@adampaganelli4891 5 жыл бұрын
Good question. At some point I probably will, this cylinder was already in pretty good shape so I am going to use it one or two more piston cycles. If I ever race the bike I will do some porting and replating.
